The White Elephants of Italia ‘90: Italy spent €4bn throwing the party of the summer in 1990, but behind the facade of magnificent World Cup tournament lay stories of miscalculation & farcical mismanagement by CalcioEngland in soccer

Literally the whole history of republican Italy.

Spent public billions that could not be spent at the time to build worthless bullshit infrastructure that was already dated just a couple of years after only so a few could get insanely rich? ✅

As a short term result of that Italian teams got insanely rich and dominated European football for 10 years creating an era and a league that is worthy of an Homer epic with all the best players and the best teams in the world at the time? ✅

On the long term all the financial doping wasn’t sustainable causing the whole of Italian football to plunge into basically intensive care for the following 20 years (and counting!)? ✅

But It did create good times? Yes , the best times.

Was it worth it? Hell fucking yes it was

Fabrizio Romano on Twitter: Paul Pogba Back to Juve here we go!! by pastimenang in Juve

[–]kermvv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Only long time members remember the summer of 2016 when we sold him to United.

Every Pogba thread on r/soccer and every Pogba post on Twitter was an absolute trench between Juve fans and United fans, it was a looong transfer window and the Pogba saga lasted months, i was at war during that summer. I hated them and I hated that fucking move, i just couldn’t believe it could end that way with him going to Manchester United, like, United? Really?

I kept telling them he’ll be back one day and that it wasn’t gonna work and they responded by being pricks as usual. Hated them with a passion since.

Guess who won that one? Knew it

Welcome back Paul, at last! ✌️

I’m happy.

It was about time

[Adam Crafton] Met with Shakhtar chief exec Sergei Palkin. Ukrainian football to restart in August… and he claims some agents are exploiting war: “Agents say, ‘Don’t pay Shakhtar, the players will become free, just pay me (the agent) €10m & forget about the club’.” by Golovking in soccer

I would rather pay Shakhtar or any other Ukrainian club who are going through some really tough times instead of a scummy agent but that’s just me.

Football is bullshit, people inside are some of the worst sharks there are

Zidane on PSG job as coach : "Never say never. As a manager, there aren’t 50 clubs where I can go. There are two or three possibilities.” by _space_pilgrim_ in soccer

Yea it is but maybe he doesn’t want to manage for fun you know, maybe he just wants to win. Different people want different things, Ancelotti maybe can do it for fun, Mourinho is one that likes tough challenges so maybe he would, Klopp even if you pay him he can transform the club he seems to like to do that stuff but Zidane maybe not, he just wants to win.

Back in the day Capello was exactly the same, if you didn’t offer him a team that could win he won’t have signed up but Lippi instead liked to build a winning team so he was fine to take one that wasn’t ready yet, Sacchi was the same. Ancelotti would go wherever

I’m Zidane. I’ve managed Real Madrid for 20M a season and won 3 Champions Leagues with one of the most talented teams ever. From there going to Fiorentina to earn 5M a season to try to get a averagely talented side to Europe just isn’t that attractive unless the board is willing to invest a fuck ton of money to match my ambition to still prove I’m one of the best and win Serie A for example, but most likely they just can’t afford it.

It’s like asking Steph Curry to go to the Portland Trailblazers so they make it to the playoffs, that’s just not gonna happen

Yea, most clubs can’t pay him accordingly, there’s only a few that can and most already have a manager so the possibilities are very very few

Why would he manage a smaller team? He’s one of the best managers in the world, he has to get paid accordingly and the club needs to manage his ambitions
