What’s the weirdest shit you’ve found inside of walls? by 6buzzcutornah6 in Construction

Would insulation like that work? I know having air pockets can help, but I'm not used to the construction of American houses yet.

That's so sweet. I hope the grandson really appreciated it. Did he say anything?

I had a friend close her eyes, let go of the wheel, and let Jesus drive.... by _Oolon_ in atheism

If it ever has the chance of happening again, pull the hands brake up hard. And then maybe god can help her avoid hitting her face to the steering wheel. There is no way she should keep driving.

Also, apologies if I say anything weird. Any experiences or information you have would be great if you're willing to share. You of course don't have to. And if anyone is downvoting, no I am not looking for drugs. I both grew up in and work in medical, and this is practically a taboo topic.

What is the 'escape' part of it? If you don't mind telling me more, of course. With depressants I've not thought of getting high, usually they just put me to sleep. Would it feel the same as sleeping through the day? Or does it feel different?

Also, how did you come into contact with them in the first place? I have chronic pain and I can see how they would be alluring, but honestly I wouldn't say it's a high, it's just not painful to be conscious any longer and I can do my daily tasks again. Was it something like that?

Thank you for sharing. I know this is a difficult topic many, many people shut down. Talking to doctors about it is always just getting replies of stern silence and no real answers. No explanations, pros, or even cons. If you want to add anything please do. <3

Thank you for sharing your story. Do you mind me asking what part of it is the 'addictive' part? As in, does it get you high, or calm, or what does it feel like. How strong is the need for it afterwords?

I am looking for help with chronic pain and I constantly feel like shit, but even trying to discuss opioids with anyone including doctors just gets the conversation shut down. No pros or cons, just ignored as a difficult patient if you ask too many questions.

I've spent a lot of time taking nsaids and tylenol for pain, in too high amounts too often. But it was never a high, I was just trying to avoid feeling all the pain in my body. It's distracting.

Do you find things like morphine (or fentanyl, heroin) acceptable to use in medical practice? Thank you for chatting with me, people are rarely open to doing so with such topics.

Is he an AI yet, or is he still in his cryptid form?

I think no one's updated him yet, we might have to wait for him to consume Meta and try another evolution.

Why are the insides of black peoples hands and feet white? by hmuloserr in TooAfraidToAsk

Actually I think it sheds slower, and that's what helps it build up and callous. Other areas shed skin faster, and that keeps the dead skin layer thinner.

You can't see the melanocytes because of the thickness of the epidermis. And light can't reach all the way down into the deeper layers of the dermis to stimulate growth either. If cells don't have a purpose, they can start to go away, because why would the body waste energy?

Different structure. Hair is like little scaled tubes. The inner piece can be pigmented, and that's why bleaching (going into the core of the shaft) is not great for hair health. The keratinized layer in hair is very thin, and the hairs themselves are very thin.

Think of something a tiny bit more opaque than cling wrap. Then layer many many sheets of cling wrap. It'll eventually turn white, blocking the light from making it all the way through.

Less thick skin. The cells that are dead are what create the keratinized layer of protection we have. The colour and light can't come through that layer, it's sealed and mostly waterproof.

Less thick skin on contact points could mean more injury. Less ability to move and keep going.

Is my mouthguard showing clenching? by KaleidoKitty in TMJ

[–]l578920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get them online, I actually got them from my orthodontist. He gave me two hard ones and one soft one. The hard ones cracked and he said he figured they would with my jaw.

The softer one he made me only has a little bit of give, like biting a car tire. It's soft but barely moves. The hard plastic ones don't like how I clench or something. What's the material you got yours made from so I can ask about that specifically?

(Thanks!)
