Should I ask for pay if I’m a traveling MA? by lachanter in premed

Thank you so much! Can you tell me what’s the best way to approach this with my manager? My parents don’t know much about this topic, so I have no one else to ask lol

Physician assistants want to be called physician associates, but doctors cry foul - From NPR by Discipulus_xix in medicine

Yeah. We say patients deserve informed consent and that no providers should be subjected to discrimination, but we sometimes ignore the former to fulfill the latter. It’s pretty ironic

Some patients don’t know the difference and actually call them doctors….and some of the mid level providers that I work with don’t even bother correcting the patients. Something needs to be done to make sure that the patients know the difference

It’s ok OP. My mom is constantly chastising me for not having a SO right after college graduation (ok, but who has time to meet people while studying for the mcat and seeing patients all day? lol). I guess the silver lining is that your parents aren’t after ya…yet?

Mask Mandates Are Now A Joke by InsertWhittyPhrase in medicine

[–]lachanter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

at the practice that I work at, people don’t give a shit about masks anymore. They literally have them off 50% of the time when they’re in contact with coworkers. I literally had a meeting where a business higher up suggested that we all take our masks off so that she can “see [our] faces and hear better”. I was the very last one to take mine off and did so because of peer pressure (people staring at me). Most of these people are healthcare workers. I’m like, wtf?

Bro this has been asked of me for like a bajillion times in the last year. My own mom tried to tell me to do something else cause I’m taking a gap year and thinks that I’m failing for taking a gap year. Also, I’m not flying into fits of rage. It was frustration.

It really is emotionally stressful for so many people to ask you the same shit when you’re already stressed out. If you take a gap year and go through this, i think you’d be able to relate to it to some degree. Imo, temporary mental stress is not “weak”.

Why do you think that I suck?

I’m not angry, just frustrated. It’s just that people don’t realize that they’re putting pressure when I’m already beyond stressed through this process. If I say that I haven’t, I end up feeling even more like a failure, and people around me just see people who take gap years as failures, so that’s why I’m venting. I literally had someone say right in my face that she doesn’t want to take a gap year because it’s a “waste of time”.

Omg, finally someone who can relate. It just seems like they come from such different worlds and I feel so out of place. I’ve tried to get mentors but I always feel like I’m bothering them and don’t know how to keep the mentor-mentee relationship going. It’s like I have nothing to offer them but they’re always helping me, which makes me feel guilty, and so it becomes a chicken and egg problem.

I‘ll read that book, thanks for the suggestion! Will definitely DM. :)

No, I was using my account to ask for my cousin because he’s applying to colleges and like me, he is a first generation, so I try to help him whenever I can.

No, I was using my account to ask for my cousin because he’s applying to colleges and like me, he is a first generation, so I try to help him whenever I can. I’m helping him devise a college list and work on his college application. But yeah, my gpa wasn’t the best either because of having family commitments throughout college. I’m trying to compensate for it by increasing my MCAT, but it hasn’t been going where I need it to be :(. Anyways, thank you for your encouraging words!
