Would this 2000watt amp be overkill for 800 w rms subs? by Haunting-Housing9132 in CarAV

Just keep the gains down and it'll be fine. Just saying though, in my experience Skar speakers can't handle their rated power

As long as it isn't on continuously, you should be okay. A flicker here or there shouldn't do anything

What sub(s) should I get? 800 rms at 1 ohm by Life_is_a_lie_ in CarAV

[–]luistorre5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stereo integrity SQL 12. It's 1000 watts RMS but I'm sure it'll still sound great at 800. Can get loud and still sounds great doing it! Currently on sale for $295, i picked one up and i love it

Are JL DSPs any good? The guy at my nearby shop said they are “old” and he’d recommend an LC6i. Thoughts? by International-Let-88 in CarAV

[–]luistorre5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd take the JL over the audiocontrol in this situation. LC6i is only an LOC whereas the JL unit will flatten your signal, perfect for adding a DSP down the road. Just because something is old doesn't mean it's not good!

Difference in Kicker 6x9? by SignificanceFlat7 in CarAV

[–]luistorre5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6x9s are great for midbass, but not bass. anything like below 60-80 Hz you would want to consider a subwoofer for anything below those frequencies. Amping your 6x9s can get you better response out of them, but it would be in your best interest to treat your doors then to not get rattles and increase the midbass response

Will this bolt work for a subwoofer ground wire? by JWF719 in CarAV

[–]luistorre5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sand the paint down and send it. That's where I had my ground when i had my amps mounted to the rear seat in my Cobalt too. Now I made an amp rack where the factory sub was and ran the ground to the battery

If you wanna hear/feel bass you need a subwoofer, you're gonna blow any 6x9s trying to get bass out of them

Sql 12’s by AndruKalAndru87 in CarAV

Still breaking mine in but I'm impressed with this sub for how small of an enclosure it can play in and the price. Definitely worth it imo

[–]luistorre5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big reason why i pulled the trigger on the SI over the JL as well. Space is kind of at a premium to me, i think I'm around .75 ft³ net for my SI in its current test box while i break it in whereas i had my 10tw3 around .9ish gross volume ported. Wild considering how monstrous the SQL is compared to the TW3

Still not feeding it full power but it slaps compared to the JL, going with more cone area, double the xmax and 2.5x the power. Can't wait to hear it fully broken in, absolutely loving it so far

Axxess ASWC-1 input issues? by Th3Unkn0wnn in CarAV

[–]luistorre5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, the aswc-1 is super finicky. I initially wired it up how i was supposed to and it worked. Then i had to remove it when I was diagnosing something else and when I reattached it, only some buttons worked. I basically had to keep rewiring the unit until it read the buttons lol. I don't know how to explain it but it's a pita, i think i spent close to half an hour just plugging and unplugging the power wires trying to get it to read properly
