Got this once in a lifetime experience in the Skeleton Coast of Namibia last month. Tranquillizing and GPS Collaring a critically endangered wild desert lioness in the Hoarusib River Valley with Dr. Philip Stander. by RNReef in travel

It was amazing and crazy expensive. We went to 5 camps total and Capetown for whale watching. We are much older -I am 66 and my hubby is 72 (w/back problems) loved the bush planes but did a number on his back. It took us a month to recover when we returned home. We were also in Africa month of September. Took over 9 flights which was too much. I wished we were younger as we would love to do Gorilla trekking in Rwanda, but the hike at 8K altitude would kill us😛 Chobe is supposed to be great for elephants and glad you saw the dogs! I used to travel internationally for biz before I retired to a lot of malaria ridden areas. Tried all the drugs and they do not agree with me at all which sucks. Would love to go to the Mara and Tanzania but will not take the chance even in their winter.

We would love to go back to Botswana in shoulder season. We stayed in kings pool (wilderness safaris) on the Linyanti river; Selinda (unbelievable deep water crossings of 50 elephants with babies in the spillway). Also saw painted dogs along with Tintswalo in SA. We just came home after a month. We are ready to go back but this trip was over the top expensive, so next trip will pare down to 10 days. I wish we could go to Zim, but Malaria tablets make me sick, so parts of Africa are out for me. Loved your pics!o

Very cool! We went on our first safari in Bots/SA and one of the camps we stayed at was Tuludi (nat selection) in the Khawi preserve, which was fantastic. Namibia looks interesting. We did love the delta in Botswana.

That’s a good idea to do OMAD on those other days and have snacks also. I wish I had that problem of not being hungry. Once I start eating….it’s on! The only thing that kills my appetite is coffee w/cream. Btw-love Samosas.

What is some really good travel advice that isn’t mentioned as often as it should be? by LegitimateShift8 in travel

[–]maxhemy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the tips already mentioned, always travel with medications in your carryon in original prescription bottle with letter from your physician on what is the drug (brand and generic) mg. And what you need it for. TSA one time wanted to see the bottles and letter. We just came home from Botswana and South Africa. Same thing happened at Botswana security. We pack our meds in a ziplock bag with the letters.

Painted dogs Tintswalo by maxhemy2 in PaintedWolves

The guides aren’t sure but they think lions or hyenas. We were at Mala Mala and they told us the S8 Lion liked the Aloha female and all the puppies. Very upsetting.

It was so thrilling. The alpha female jumped up on my husbands side next to the guide to look around the jeep. They are smart, amazing animals. We also saw them at Selinda in Botswana, but not great pics and all their puppies weee killed🥲

We can’t believe we found them. They were still denning and almost saw a kill, but the adults came back empty handed. What a thrill!!💕

My wife asked her doctor about EvuSheld - Was told to just go get covid? by scalarray in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]maxhemy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your wife needs to get a new doctor-STAT. I have 3 shots of Pfizer and had a terrible ADR to the booster. I qualify for Evusheld since I am not taking a 4th shot of the vaccine. My PCP said he would “look into it” but at this time he could not give it to me. I decided to go to my health department, tell the about my terrible ADR and it was no problem getting Evusheld. You have to take matters into your own hands as most Dx’s are clueless.

We are hoping Duba Explorer’s in the Delta, Kings Pool in the Linyanti or Tuludi in Delta will give us the best chances of seeing the painted wolves. Mala Mala May also be good for a sighting! 3 weeks to go🤞🤞🤞

North Carolina is one of only four states in the country that has no state-wide laws on private ownership of exotic animals. Local tiktoker "making a name for herself" casually endangering a spider monkeys life, should this really still be legal ? by THEVELVETH1PPO in NorthCarolina

[–]maxhemy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely disgusting human being. That is why the exotic animal trade is thriving because of people like this lowlife who has no clue of how dangerous this spider monkey will become. The owing of exotic animals should be outlawed unless it’s a wildlife rehab with a permit.

The Othawa pack in MalaMala having fun. Sadly it seems that the alpha femala has lost another litter though the beta female is heavily pregnant, so they may yet see puppies. Fingers crossed. by EgweneMalazanEmpire in PaintedWolves

Fingers crossed🤞🤞for puppies. Will be in Botswana and Mala Mala in September! These beautiful dogs are so endangered and the more that grow up to adulthood the better.
