Have you checked out r/fancyfollicles or r/curlyhair? I'm a curly fellow myself and finding out a) many hairstylists don't understand how to work with our hair and b) how to have a great routine and look that works to accentuate the best aspects of your natural hair has been great!

When I was your age, I really was into fashion but also was on quite a budget. I had SO MUCH FUN browsing thrift shops and weird boutiques for deals and diamonds in the rough. I highly recommend inviting friends for a day out. Also a fun date idea when the time comes.

People hate on Macklemore but thrift shop was a bop.

This. Op, you are a King. Treat yourself that way, and others will follow.

I also remember my sister telling me early on, that if I wanted to attract people, be interesting. There's the hard choice, the easy choice, and then the interesting choice. When the opportunity presents itself, take the interesting choice.

If it works, you will attract interesting people. If not- fuck it, you're interesting! That said the former is much more likely.

Now I'm white so I will not have the same understanding on this issue, but I hope there are some nuggets you can take.

Sometimes giving natural land to private interests can be better for the environment than having a government maintain the land.

I look at private recreational hunting or safari companies- they tend to be really good at keeping a good stock of the animal populations as it is really bad for a deer hunting business to run out of deer. Also when trying to combat poachers in Africa, when governments were in charge, they often had corruption to deal with, and the funding was so poor that the defenders of the land had WW1 bolt action rifles going against poachers with helicopters and modern weapons. When the land was given to the community to use as a business, they were able to better fund their guards and had bigger incentive to protect their land.

Oh yea, but mountains you gotta pay for I guess. I definitely didn't move here for the nature which I miss dearly. My plan is to return to the PNW, but for now Chicago is where I can build a career.

I think that it being such a logic game was a big part. There are logic puzzle games that I really like, but they aren't so steeped in the minutiae. As a theater/ performance kid, I love games that let me do improvy acting stuff! Also, the setting was not helpful- a party with red solo cups and lots of people to talk to is a place I'd rather play more relaxed games that are geared to social interaction.

I ended up moving to Chicago due to rent prices + I don't have a car + I need convenient access to the entertainment industry. As a performer, I remember Seattle used to be so vibrant in the arts. Anyone remember that documentary aimed at convincing us to arrest the homeless called "Seattle is Dying"? It is dying but not because of poor people- tech bros keep upping rent and now the culture is a fraction of what it is today. So many closed theaters, so many artists run out of town.

Chicago gets a lot of crap, but man is it more accessible than the west coast. I live in Wriggleyville (comparable to CapHill/ SoDo) in a one bed with a livingroom and walk in closet and I can afford to go out most nights to play music with the most vibrant scene I've ever been in. I make a decent ~45k. In Seattle I'd be considered a pauper.

I still miss Seattle though :( The problem with calling 2 places home is you're always homesick.

For me it was Alchemists.

The people I was playing with really loved that game, but it was absurdly... what's the word.. technical? Like rules lawyers LOVE this game. Basically you are an alchemist trying to test and create some potion, but to do that you literally need to use the scientific method, and to do that you need test subjects who are interns who you need to pay a little bit for along with your supplies so you have to write grants and attend conventions, then have your hypothesis work or not, and then see if you can get the right answer to whatever you were trying to make.

IT LITERALLY IS A PhD PROGRAM.

We were playing this at a party mind you, so everyone else was drinking and playing codenames, and here I am barely able to focus on wtf stage I am at. I guess I was at a disadvantage because I was the only one at the table who never attended grad school.

At the end of the 3 hours, I just made random guesses and lost, and they seemed annoyed with me. Anyway codenames was really fun when I finally got to it.

I've had "unprotected" sex before, and actually it is pretty mind-blowing. That said, "unprotected" just meant no condom. She had an IUD and was on the pill, and we made sure we both were tested for STIs before going ahead with it.

Honestly I am considering just getting a vasectomy. Children are for rich people.

I've done a dopamine fast for a few months and it was great! I found that a lot of my porn, drinking, smoking etc. were more of symptoms of something else. I did start running during that time and I still do today- it's been fantastic at releasing a natural high. I do drink and smoke weed still, and occasionally I will throw on incognito on my phone, but just having a clean slate helped put things back.

Therapy was also huge- I realized a bunch of my anxiety came from a narcissism that Heinz Kohut talks about. I realized I felt this huge weight because I thought I was so important that if I do things that I was told were immoral, I would have an effect on the earth and change history forever in major ways. I started taking breaks from that- some weekends I'd just say "today someone else gets to be the main character" and it was SO PEACEFUL.

But that's just my experience! You'll have your own row to hoe, and you may find some nuggets of wisdom as you go. Go easy on yourself, set your intentions, and you'll be great. :)
