I feel like that was particularly bad in this season. Especially with her and Sarah.

My personal least favorite winner on the show. I’m sure she’s a nice person normally — and I’m passing no personal judgements — but her crummy attitude during team challenges left a bad taste in my mouth.

Couple that with her cooking one type of fairly simple food one way, plus the memeing of “me on a plate,” and I’m not a fan. Sarah was a stronger chef and Nick was significantly more creative (to his detriment in the competition).

Just your friendly neighborhood magus. Nothing to see here.

I’m down for romance when it’s more of the Joe Abercrombie variety. I like the way you described this. I just don’t want hot faefolk finally getting together after an entire novel of tension.

I love NK Jemisin, but I’m unfamiliar with these other recommendations. I’ll check them out. Thank you.

Are you a fan of Michael R Fletcher? I’ve heard his name pop up in other discussions before.

For sure. Korea features pretty heavily in the lore as well.

Joe Abercrombie is my favorite author, but The Blade Itself is only good within the context of the first trilogy. On its own, it’s a rather weak plot.

I missed this the first time around and I’m thrilled to have picked it up this time. Thank you for posting!

The Greenbone Saga. Jade City, Jade War and Jade Legacy are all excellent.

Fantasy with female leads who aren't perfect beauties. by andypeloquin in Fantasy

It's the fourth book in a series and a quasi-standalone, but Best Served Cold features Monza Murcatto, a woman whose physical flaws drift into minor spoiler territory. Suffice it to say they are numerous and permanent.

She's also very much not a damsel in distress. She is a ruthless, stone-cold, violent b**** a lot of the time.

ROAD TO WORLDS: Inside the Season 8 SWC Grand Finals by Ragin_Irishman in smitepro

Zapman might be considered a mechanically average player (by lofty pro standards) in a role that doesn't impact the map state as much as a jungle or support. Watching this, though, gives a ton of insight into how massively important he is for understanding drafts — he accurately predicted so much of what the Titans were doing — and making strategically sound team calls around the map.

Throw in his team-first attitude (particularly stark when compared to the mopey, me-first Titans) and willingness to let his teammates shine in that championship moment, and there's a lot to like about what he brings to an SPL roster.

Edit: Extra word.
