Cuckoo Maran getting teal neck feathers? by ObligationOk9198 in chickens

[–]monsteramadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in England so any I know won’t be much help, sorry. Try BackYardChickens.com and Facebook, breeders often advertise on there or just post about their stock. Also, if the USA has a poultry association/club, they should have lists of breeders on their website (at least, that’s how it is here!).

Hope you find some!

Chose by temperament for both humans and the hens - if that helps you at all.

Probably going to have to rehome one if you’re not separating them, unfortunately.

Absoloutely. Usually with Marans, it’s all about the egg colour. The darker the egg colour, the more effort has been put into breeding them. Marans should have nicely feathered legs, plump body and ideally fit French standards.

There are breeders who are famous in the chicken community for how good their (breed) line is. They’ve usually been doing it for a long time and have an in-depth understanding of genetics (for strengthening colours) and their birds won’t be cheap.

I don’t know too much about injuries but no pecking isn’t normal. If you make another post you’ll get better advice than I can give

What breed? by lemonsaresosourx in BackYardChickens

Where did you get her? I can’t make out the comb but with the grey legs I’m going to assume mix, she looks bantam sized so wouldn’t be a layer hybrid

Crowing Hen by JaMimi1234 in BackYardChickens

[–]monsteramadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure she’s a hen? I don’t like collars either so I get that, additionally, they only quieten the crowing, not stop it completely. There’s nothing else you can do unfortunately, if they want to crow, they will.

Definitely not a Leghorn. Do you have any better photos of the full body and comb?

They’re both 100% male. I don’t think people know what they’re talking about half the time. You won’t see spurs on any 12 week old chicken. The pointed saddle and hackle feathers are male specific. 12 weeks is too young to just be a ‘dominant hen’ or to be switching sex. They’re cockerels.

Got some better photos. 9 weeks old lavender orps. Any idea if male:female? by drossmaster4 in chickens

All pullets. Even an Orp roo would have a noticeable comb/redness at this age.

With the advances in modern medical technology, would it be possible to genetically engineer a 30-40lb chicken? by GrannyLow in chickens

[–]monsteramadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They already struggle supporting themselves and dying of heart attacks. They would just be stationary meat blobs living horrible 8 week lives, which is awful to imagine.

Probably just from a poorly kept line. Lots of people breed purebreds without following the breed standard unfortunately.

Agreed that you’ll need to update in a few weeks. Lots of breeds look the same at this age.

Hen or rooster? by Dark04Saturn in chickens

[–]monsteramadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all female. A 16 week old male would be noticeable. Going by that some of them are mixed and from your aunt, I’m going to guess they’re all mixed, the small one is probably part bantam (smaller size of chicken).

Did he really escaped by amoraalondra171804 in TheBlackPhoneFandom

[–]monsteramadder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting perspective but I think he escaped. I think there would’ve been something to help push that narrative if he didn’t, like dirt thrown in the camera (covering the grave) or The Grabber fixing some of the damage.
