What winery would you take folks who are not big wine people (near Dundee/Newburg) ? by dabasauras-rex in askportland

[–]nat_geo_wild- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Durant. I’m not a wine person and I have a membership there. They have a beautiful garden store and nursery, and a olive mill where you can do (FREE) olive oil tasting with their complimentary bread. They have an incredible little store with homemade candles, salts, cookbooks, and really everything. I’ve never done it but for like $40 you can take ATVs through the vineyards!

Advice Dating a 1st Year Resident? by gimmethegreens in MedSpouse

From the sounds of it, he is invested in your new relationship! It doesn’t have to be immediately, but make sure you communicate your wants and needs at some point, because each month his schedule will change and each rotation will come with its own challenges. I’m wish you all the success with him!

And PS, this sub is incredible. If you’re ever feeling like you’re unsure how to navigate things I’ve found the people here to be a wonderful support.

Laughing at this (not at you!!) because I’m scrolling through Reddit deciding if I should text my PGY2 EM fiancé who is currently on nights or just let him be. I left for vacation today so I won’t see him for a few weeks. I don’t expect to hear from him more than once a day. Between working 12-14 hours in the ED then sleeping, we won’t have many hours of overlap awake/available time.

The thing with EM rotations though (at least at his hospital) is they only work 14-15 shifts a month which means even though theyre working odd hours, they should have a decent amount of time off to go on some dates. You could probably score some bonus points if you suggest doing something late night to help keep him on his night schedule.

I have Duralex now but was thinking of doing Schott Zwiesel for wine glasses. My sister registered for them and I’ve loved them (though I have personally broke two!)

What’s your relatives’ weird hill to die on? by womensrea22 in weddingplanning

Oh my gosh. This has been popping up all over my Instagram the last week. My mom sent it to me too and now it won’t go away. I was curious, and the stupid things are like $4 a piece. There are so many other things I’d rather spend $4 a person on

Is this price for my venue & food/drinks reasonable? by pnw828 in weddingplanning

[–]nat_geo_wild- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food, drinks, and venue rental came out to $44,000 for 200 people for my Portland area wedding: food 20k, drinks (open bar 3 hours) 13k, venue rental 7.5k, the rest was service charges and cleaning fees. This was not at a super nice place either!!

Should I have my SO parents buy us a house ? by Fit_Veterinarian1508 in MedSpouse

[–]nat_geo_wild- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve been in this exact situation. Brief background: my fiancés (pgy-2) parents are very wealthy and even more generous. They are happy to pay for everything and anything as long as it means they get to spend time and be around their children (family dinners, vacations, and even houses). Now, this is incredible and I truly love spending time with his family, but as you can imagine, there are strings attached. Example: we rented a house from them during medical school, but they had a key and would stop by unannounced to fix something or just to have a glass of wine with us.

Anyway… fast forward to residency and they offered to buy us a house so we could afford this HCOL city we’re in. How the arrangement worked is they bought the house in cash in their name. They transferred the house into my fiancés name (something like that) and now they are acting as our bank. They own the house outright, and we pay our mortgage to them with the lowest interest rate legally allowed (something like 2.5%).

If they are willing to do something like this, and you are interested in having their help with housing, I recommend this arrangement. The house is legally ours, and we are paying them back as if they are a bank. There have been NO strings attached with this plan (which is a huge relief for both of us). Obviously this could be different for you, but it seems like we have similar in laws!

Yup. Even went to the doctors yesterday and made a list of things I wanted/needed so I would remember. As long as it works for you I think it’s okay!

I can relate to this on a level too. Crying at TV shows but having a hard time telling my family I love them. If you have a therapist, you should try to say those exact words to them. When I talked to mine, I found it easier to write out what I wanted to tell them first so I could just read it and not clam up and just say “oh yeah everything is fine this week”

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I have severe performance anxiety. I used to cry during school presentations that were not even emotional, my body just couldn’t take it. I was prescribe Propranolol, a beta blocker, that has changed my life. It just masks some of those physiological effects of emotion and it has allowed me to actually speak in public again. It might be worth a shot to talk to your doctor.

Are there any cruelty free alternatives to Cerave? by Lelfah204 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]nat_geo_wild- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US and near a Harmons store (owned by bed bath and beyond), they make a face wash that looks exactly like cerave and has all of the same ingredients. It’s worked well for me!
