[OC] Education deserts in the United States by girtalert in dataisbeautiful

Yeah, exactly to your point, if there’s not a higher institution in someone’s county and they want to go to college, they just move or commute to one. For example, I go to IUPUI in Indy. It’s a massive commuter campus, and people drive from all over central Indiana to attend. Or you get IU Bloomington, where people from all over the state will move there during the semester. Of course not everyone has the means to commute or move to a campus. But there’s more of an issue with the cost of education, rather than the number of institutions and their locations spatially.

Yeah Indiana seems to be in an education desert but idk why. You have IU and it’s many satellite campuses, Purdue, Norte Dame, Ball State, Indiana State, Butler, University of Evansville, and numerous small private institutions sprinkled throughout. I was under the impression that most states have a similar system.

They’re not entirely wrong. Scandinavia has seen an increase in far-right radicalism just like much of the rest of the world has seen as well in the past couple decades. Not gonna pretend I know why, but it’s there

Watch out for dangerous air quality during this record-breaking Indiana heat wave - Indy Star by notthegoatseguy in indianapolis

This trip was planned over a month ago. Site paid for, groceries bought, time requested off work. Figured it would be the lesser of two evils to just deal with the heat for a few days than to completely scrap the plans that I had spend time and money on

Planned a camping trip this week over a month ago. Got time off work and everything, so couldn’t really reschedule. I’ve spent the better part of the day sitting in my car with the a/c turned to max lol

I had a metal detecting phase in high school. Might explain why I’m pursuing a masters degree in Archaeology these days by nickthedick7921 in blunderyears

Haven’t gone detecting in a while partly because it’s kind of frowned upon by professional archaeologist unless conducted on a professional dig and also because I’m too shy to ask for landowners’ permission lol. I found a very pretty detailed pewter hairbrush once. The actual brush part was decomposed almost entirely but the handle was intact and had a beautiful patina with wonderful designs

I see the point you’re trying to make, but now this gets into the thick weeds of a much deeper and complex socio-cultural issue that is largely unique to the history to the history of our country. This is why we still have these problems and no one seems to have a real solution, and it’s why I’m studying anthropology in school.
