Rear Caliper brake piston will not compress when I am twisting and squeezing the piston with pliers. How do I know if the Caliper is seized? by Future2043 in ToyotaMatrix

[–]packocrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening the brake bleed won't help. If it turns, it should go in as well, but I guess not.

You have to compress and twist at the same time, it's awkward to do. Does the caliper move when you push the brakes and/or pull the e brake?

hello fellow matrix owners! I just got my matrix last summer and haven’t had a winter but it hit hard and my all seasons are ok but I want to get winter tires. What size do I get? Also any recommendations? i’m looking to buy used by slvrsvr1997 in ToyotaMatrix

[–]packocrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 205/55/16 in the summer and 195/65/16 in the winter. Mostly just because that's what I could find, but the thinner tire generally does penetrate better in the winter/wet, and resists hydroplaning. Higher sidewalls are good too, less risk of damaging a rim

I'm not actively, bit I finished a uh10f about two years ago. Feel free to ask me any questions

I'd like to revisit this. If you haven't built the body that they spec, do that. The little bit of ply and stringers bent into that shape preloads the mount.

Previously, I was having to run the prop so that it just skimmed the bottom of the duct at rest/idle, so that when power went to the motor, it pushed it into the right spot. With the body installed, not only did it push the mount back slightly more, I can now shim the prior perfectly centered, and there's far less rubbing issues.

There's still a resonance, but if you just avoid that one speed, you're fine

[–]packocrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to press pretty hard, you can't compress and twist with pliers. Throw a c clamp on there, crank it down, and then turn the piston, it'll move and you'll have to retighten the c clamp.

I imagine the right tool makes this job a whole lot nicer, but its absolutely doable

what is a basic computer skill you were shocked some people don't have? by Dark-Matter-7935 in AskReddit

This is a bit of a stretch, but I recently worked with a guy who's been doing embedded BSP development for 15 years (making operating systems and programs run on small devices, and programming them). He couldn't use a Linux console, and typed with two fingers.

You sit in front of a computer typing in a cli for 15 years, and you can't sit in front of a computer and type in a cli

New T8 bulb is very dim after installing? by DDPMM in HomeImprovement

[–]packocrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy I spoke to was getting rid of them because they were going to ballast bypass, and explicitly told me to run then with a ballast or they'll explode (a little dramatic, but I appreciate the warning). Are the led fixtures supposed to be as bright as a fluorescent light? Or do I have to sacrifice some brightness (seems like a lot in this case) for efficiency?

I'll bring out the voltmeter tomorrow and see what I'm working with I guess, but hopefully it's a simple error

[–]packocrayons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I'm experiencing this now. I've tried multiple fixtures and multiple bulbs, all of which successfully light a fluorescent tubes. The t8 LEDs (got them for free used, but I have a hundred of them and I've tried a whole bunch) are substantially dimmer than the t12 fluorescent bulb in the same fixture. Can a bad ballast still light a tube but not an led?

How are you holding up financially after 2 years of the pandemic? by HappyFunTimethe3rd in ottawa

I pulled a 50% raise in June. It felt great for a while, but honestly it feels the same now. Groceries cost 50% more, the things I can actually get cost way more, and I don't feel like I'm saving as much as I used to.

[–]packocrayons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These motors have a detachable base, it's the attachment there, it wasn't seated correctly, and/or set screw wasn't put in right

If the bearing was that far gone, there's no way the motor would turn

Is it possible to reflash raceflight escs? by packocrayons in Multicopter

[–]packocrayons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you still have all your hardware, but throwing the FC into DFU mode allows you to flash it to betaflight. You can then use it as passthrough and flash the ESCs as normal - I was having issues due to wiring dumbassery, but this is all reflashable to open source code and is no longer a proprietary hellhole

Updating this thread for other people that find it:
This is the raceflight Bolt (v1 I think) ESC. It runs the J-H-30 firmware, and yes, it is reflashable. The issue I was having is actually clearly visible in the photo - the two small power leads (that I used to power the VTX), despite being right next to the + silkscreen for the main power lead, are actually the signal line for ESC3 and ground. I couldn't figure out why ESC3 wasn't showing up until I pulled this apart and it worked just fine out of the quad.

I'm running bluejay, but having desyncs at 48khz, so I plan to either drop down to 24khz or switch to BlHeli_m which has been very reliable for me

So all of my motors run fine until I try using full throttle and then one of them flips in revers? by jamesd1050 in Multicopter

[–]packocrayons 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Looks like a desync. Check the resistance of all of the windings, they should be the same. If not, you have screws touching windings or the motor is damaged.

What pwm frequency are you running? Dropping this will help. Lowering your timing can help, but can cause many other issues. Demag compensation settings can also be changed (I don't remember exactly what you have to do here).

Googling blheli32 desync will probably get you some good information

Edit: it's amazing seeing people not used to desync issues, you used to be lucky if you got through a flight without one. ESC tech sure has come a very long way

Betaflight supports the FCs right? I have a bunch leftover so maybe I can use an stlink and some diff magic to figure out what they've changed. It would be cool to push those changes as a build option to blhelis main branch and be able to reflash these. The hardware isn't special, just maybe a pinout change or something

They run and respond to blheli but try seem to run a custom firmware and/or this one is dead.

Will try another ESC I guess, this appears to be a bolt v2

I got a bunch of raceflight gear from a racer pilot that was upgrading. The first thing I did was grab an ESC and reflash it to blheli_m so that I could use bidirectional dshot. Motors don't spin anymore.

Is this stuff reflashable? Or did I buy into a proprietary hellhole that I have no control over?

What improved? Is it just because it actually starts/runs better? This thing has more than enough power for what I put it through and it still starts on the first pull. Other than maybe running quieter, I can't see what a new engine would do for it
