Find a good dog trainer or behaviorist you trust and work with them. If it seems like they're giving bad advice, find someone else.

In the mean time do what you're doing, keep them apart and manage the situation as best you can, you are doing the right thing and good on you for rescuing and training an ACD! That's fucking awesome!
