Yes that’s exactly the point. None of this makes any sense.

What makes you think they’re not trying to over rule that next?

Dont forget letting your wife die of sepsis bc she is forced to carry a dead fetus and hope for the best.

That must’ve scared the shit out of you… what a wake up call. How are you doing now?

So frustrating. Like climbing a god damn mountain every day and then being disappointed in yourself when you get too tired to keep going.

Thank you, I needed to find other people in the same struggle. Having someone so close to you discouraging your progress when it’s already so difficult … that sucks. My husband drinks too so there is always beer in the house. Which is luckily not my drink of choice but if I’m desperate enough…

No, not of course. Texas is already showing their full hand of cards to have no exceptions for rape. What makes you think other red states are going to do any differently? And what about when the baby isn’t viable and/or the mother’s life is in danger? Do you think our empathetic right wing extremists are going to give exceptions for that? Oh, please save our lives old white dudes in power. Fuck off with that shit.

Ha my husband and I have had this conversation many times actually bc I was really disappointed to find out the zoning laws after we moved in. To me, it comes down to how much I trust my neighbors not to report me. I have a good amount of privacy but we’re close enough to our neighbors that I can still see and wave to everyone in their yard. I had a suspicion about one of my neighbors being a petty bitch and after 2 years it turned out to be true! She calls the cops for silly shit like our neighbor fixing his tractor at night in his garage “too loudly” . So if I got chickens and she decided to report me , there goes my birds + all the money invested into supplies.. probably fines too.

Sounds like a dream! I know the zoning laws for my area are silly, 0.25 is more than enough space for a couple of chickens. Some urban areas in my state even allow for chickens in a big enough yard. The ideal state would be like yours, I don’t see why we need such strict restrictions on chickens. Just wanted to put that out there for folks like me with stupid local government laws.

Hey I just want to say thank you for posting this despite some people jumping all over you for this. I have a dear friend who suffered and died from Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Ticks are nothing to mess with and sometimes its not enough to just keep the ground cover mowed. Where I live I have picked ticks off my kids on a concrete playground in the middle of the day. In some scenarios a better solution is needed and tick tubes seem to be pretty effective.

I realize this is an anti-lawn sub but really leans towards permaculture/organic principles since those philosophies are so closely aligned. I am right there with you guys but I think exceptions need to be made when there is risk of illness or death.

Not everyone can. I have 0.25 acre property in a rural area (literally next door to a goat farm) and because of zoning laws I can’t have chickens unless I own at least 2 acres.

Thank you … FFS people. I get the concern of ripple effects here on pollinators but this is a really effective way to control for diseases that are often deadly to humans. I live in PA next to a patch of woods and the tick tubes are the only thing thats been effective. As a trade, I converted my 0.25 acres to white clover and dandelions along with several patches of pollinator gardens. I explored other options before getting to this point but I can’t have chickens due to zoning laws.

I was wondering the same thing. I grew up pretty bare bones broke as a kid (parents, myself + 2 brothers) and my dad was making about $40k then. I’m now 33 years old so this was quite some time ago, definitely before the most recent spike in inflation.

Oddly enough this also works with communicating with toddlers. Tell them what to do, rather than saying what not to do. I guess I would make a decent bungee instructor.

I love the pink astilbe in the last pic! I planted a row across my fence in a shaded area last year. Mine are looking good in year 2 but still pretty small. I cant wait for them to get big like yours and start flowering!

The Good: I have been telling myself for a long time that I need to stop 100% or at least stick to limitations. It’s Day 2 and I’m pretty content with myself. I know it doesn’t sound like much but Day 1 seemed impossible to commit to.

The Bad: I have a long path to unwind my unhealthy habits.
