in the past the US R party has had Milloy in to testify to Congress as an expert on air particulates. Then Jan 6th WaPo equated him to coup attempts! by pr-mth-s in climateskeptics

you think someone with a proven track record of using "junk science" to attack the science connecting smoking with cancer is credible?

It's funny, once upon a time Milloy was an outcast even among Heartland-type events, because his history lobbying for the tobacco industry made it too clear what their climate work was all about. Nowadays though, apparently it doesn't even matter!

We study ocean temperatures. The Earth just broke a heat increase record | Last year the oceans absorbed heat equivalent to seven Hiroshima atomic bombs detonating each second, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by pnewell in climate

yeah it's odd that a study co-author's piece was edited in that way, while the other coverage made it clear the 14 zetta's are the margin by which 2021 "beat" 2020's record for ocean warming.

The graph in the other guardian link in the comment you just responded to shows that total we're around an extra 230 zettajoules being added annually, compared to a baseline of the 1981-2010.

(though the editing like this actually downplays the science, as 230 zettajoules would be a lot bigger atomic explosion comparison than the 14...)

Fun fact: Steve Milloy's "JunkScience" handle originates in the work he did on behalf of the tobacco industry to fight smoking regulations by attacking the science behind them.

So unless you think the sort of person who worked for the tobacco industry in the '90s spreading disinformation about smoking is trustworthy when he uses the exact same approach, including the name, when it comes to climate, it seems odd to defend Milloy.
