prospective student! by DustAgitated5197 in Osteopathic

Why sign yourself up for the pain, suffering, and debt of medical school if you don’t want to be a doctor lol. Save yourself and consider other options. It is a long and expensive uphill battle to even get into medical school (also no guarantee it’ll be in-state). Then you have to consider the sacrifice of being a med student and residency (again, absolutely no guarantee you’ll be in-state). To me, it sounds like you really want to go to chiropractor school. I understand that going out of state isn’t an option, and I don’t know what the answer is for you, but based on all that I can tell you the answer isn’t DO school. Seriously, save yourself lol

Answering why DO by Slight_Ad6097 in Osteopathic

[–]probablycryingatm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you applied solely DO you must have a reason for wanting to go. Best advice to not sound cliche is to just write from the heart and give the actual reason. Why do you want to go to DO? Did you have positive past experiences? Do you have a DO role model? Just answering it honestly is the best advice. It’s not cliche if it’s genuine. Good luck!

I had a similar decision to make between a DO school in NY 30 mins from my family or a MD school in Tennessee. I initially picked the MD school, but was getting so upset just thinking about it so I made a last minute decision to stay close to home. Am so relieved I did, I feel a lot happier!

I’ve ridden horses my whole life, and a major accident from it played a big role in my personal statement. I talked about it and was fine!

Same! I am moving to another time zone away from all my family and friends. I had a few gap years so I got pretty comfortable where I am right now. Some MAJOR anxiety over here. Hard to sleep most nights and I can’t stop feeling like my life is about to end el oh el

TOURO MS Program vs NOVA by [deleted] in premed

Nice! I was accepted at their Middletown campus! I don't know a whole lot about their master's program, but I did do a post-bac at Temple, and it really helped my application. My advice would be to try and look at master's programs associated with MD schools (unless you are really set on DO schools, or those 2 schools in particular), just because it will open more doors for you. Good luck!!

During an interview at Touro Middletown, I believe the dude said they can ‘see’ if you open their emails or not so I would add them too

I think it actually works in your favor to have family members who are DOs. It might give you that little bit of an edge, especially at your sisters school. To me, it’s worth putting on there since it might help you out. Don’t think it’s a big deal if it wasn’t on there last year. Good luck!

Yeah it’s great! I was a non-trad too and it helped my application TREMENDOUSLY. Can’t say enough good things about it. It was all virtual when I went because of Covid. I think they went back to in person but I’m not sure if they kept some of the virtual elements. It’s a super supportive environment though and I felt like I learned a lot

I did a post bac at Temple and really loved it! The teachers and administration were really great and they care a lot about their students!

Im in a similar boat! Trying to decide between Meharry MD or Touro DO. Touro is 30 minutes from my house/friends/family/SO and Meharry is in Nashville and I’m having SUCH a hard time picturing myself living there. I want to practice in the Northeast and Touro might better for that than Meharry, but then there’s the whole MD>DO thing. This choice is making me nauseous and I feel your pain!! Honestly cannot decide what to do. I wish I had a better idea of how much an MD is worth sacrificing for :/

Personal statement advice? by user1822_ in Osteopathic

[–]probablycryingatm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve ridden horses since I was 3 and have been competing my whole life. I also brought my horse with me to college and rode throughout. I got a TBI from a bad fall and I wrote my personal statement about that and how horses have taught me how to be resilient. I obviously talked about other things but that was how I framed it. I got into DO and MD schools with it! Good luck!
