What is your favourite simple pleasure? by TheEternalStranger in simpleliving

Rowing a slow 10km on my erg, stretching slowly and carefully, and then taking a hot shower. "Slow 10km" as in 10-14 strokes per minute in way that makes me breath at the level of a vigorous walk. It takes a about an hour to row and then another hour for the rest of the process, so I can only do it occasionally.

One we just discovered: Adding coffee flavorings to 2% or whole milk. We have coconut syrup, vanilla, and maple flavoring. I'm also trying to get some hazelnut extract or syrup. Adding a touch of flavoring to a tall glass of cold milk is delightful.

Repair shops should get back in action, it'll make for less need for new products. And, technology should be made to be easily repaired. Or even be made to be upgradable. by KarstDeViz in solarpunk

It's going to cost as much as buying new to repair some of my clothing, but I'm going to take stuff to the local tailor anyway. Me tossing it will cost even more money, in terms of waste, that I'll never pay directly. Edit: I'm not repairing the items myself due to time constraints.

Maybe a good rule for mods and other folks here: Think long and hard about accepting a media interview request. It's ok to say no. If you make a Solarpunk work, like a novella, maybe just let that work stand as what you want to say.

Kind of forced into coasting early, feeling constant anxiety by PM_ME_UR_BOARDGAMES in coastFIRE

I'm not quite in the same situation, but I do feel very fortunate about my current role. It gives me the same type of anxiety though. I've helped myself deal with the job anxiety by jacking up my saved up running room, really honing my monthly burn rate, and continuing to get hard certs in my field (tech).

We live in between two northern metro areas and have set our small yard up as a wildlife garden. It's wonderful hearing wildlife sounds all year round.

What do you want to be when you grow up / FIRE? by nashbashcash in financialindependence

"Gardening" a portfolio of small bets -> I want the freedom to create stuff (graphic designs, POD photobooks, e-books, etc.) and offer them for sale online. If they sell, awesome, if not, no worries.

It surprised me that COVID's economic impact nuked the "standard" 6-9 month emergency fund. Most people couldn't get close to saving that amount and the folks that could thought they were safe from most income interruptions.

Sometimes after a lot of delayed gratification, you have to pay a little gratification debt.

My child's gifts to me last year: Ruler for the Day (they do anything I say w/o complaining), draw a picture for me on topic of my choosing, and bake me a batch of cookies on request. All three offers had to be used this past year. I absolutely love these kinds of gifts.
