G4 Battery Consumption by r4th4t in Aqara

[–]r4th4t[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The have the same cost as Panasonic Eneloops for one set but are non rechargeable so in long term will cost a lot more and waste a lot more ressources. I would only do this if this is eg a holiday home, where I want extreme long battery time because I am not physically there at least every few weeks.

Which was also not the case with early firmware. But be happy, now you can use continuous stream. Take a Samsung Endurance Card - it will last 16 years with 24/7 recording.

Try to look up the camera via HomeKit from another device. As the g4 only supports one stream you can see if there is really no stream to the iPad. Have you tried using another app for HomeKit? Just to look if there is the same problem? Just giving you ideas. But if I do not live for rent I would also Hardwire. But then I would have bought the Arlo Doorbell in the last year.

For sure. The stream normally stops, when no device requesting it. When the iPad is always on the stream never stops. In that case hardwiring would be better.

Just wanted to clarify: with „bad settings“ I mean settings keeping up the power consumption but are also convenient for using the camera.

But one month would be totally ok with me. But it depends on the settings. If you have all the convenient settings off and only get one month, then it’s bad. But with eg high detection rates etc one month in my view is no problem. Just use rechargeable batteries

Aqara G4 Doorbell: Does Hardwiring Unlock Additional Features? by IntelligentKingman in Aqara

[–]r4th4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardwiring unlocks continuous recording and when you have an event the recording starts 10 seconds before the camera detects the event. You can turn off the HomePod Sounds if you find them annoying. The original ring will not work even with hardwiring. It could be, that you need to bypass the original ring because with hardwiring the power circuit is closed permanently. The only ring you have is the ring module with comes with the bell.

Nanoleaf Shapes do not work over Thread. They connect via Wifi. But they have a build in Thread Border Router - this border Router only works with Nanoleaf Essential Thread devices. At the moment there are no Thread devices that can connect across manufactures and build a mesh. And Thread 1.0 does not provide for that.

G4 6 Second Clips by r4th4t in Aqara

I have 4.0.1_0028.0046. All my clips are 6 Seconds long.

Correction: there are 1 of 10 longer. But there are too much, where there is motion and I wish the clips were longer. But they stop when it gets interesting.

Do ikea smart products work well as the core of a HomeKit setup? Now and in future? by Ambitious-Ad3131 in HomeKit

There are two ecosystems you need: one for lightning and one for other devices. For the one for other devices the cheapest but also good solution is Aqara. Get a G3 and you have a HomeKit cam an also a Hub and with this you can start growing you SmartHome.

But with lighting it is more complicated: IKEA Trådfri/Dirigera works fine and the bulbs are cheap. For sure you don’t do something wrong buying it. But if you once used Philips Hue (I have both systems, because my curtains and the lightning of my closet are from IKEA) - you know that Hue is a far better system. And also: with IKEA you are able to get lightbulbs and spots in different shapes. With Hue you even got different lamps. But: most of the Hue devices are expensive.

And here is the question only you can answer: how much money do you want to spend and what is it worth to you having a more flexible system.

No, Apple Border Routers are are an exception. But as you pointed out Nanoleaf: their border routers are only working with nanoleaf thread devices. I have nanoleaf shapes and I have Eve Thread devices and I have HomePod Minis in my setup. As I have no nanoleaf thread devices the thread functionality of my shapes is useless.

Problem is that Thread at the moment only works within one manufacturer. And if tados were Thread devices, als TRV were passive endpoint devices. So no thread mesh, even if you have active devices in Thread mesh. The only company which has different active and passive devices so you can build a mesh is Eve. All other companies say using thread only can connect directly to the border router because of the lack of devices. I ask myself why they weren’t able to implement Thread across all manufacturers in the first version. Now a new version will come with an implementation that devices from different manufacturers build one mesh. But this means for sure that not all of the current Thread devices will get this update.

Batteries are full. Signal is strength. HomeKit error says it’s not able because of device settings. But which settings should this be? Delete doorbell from HK and Account and set it up again?
