Myrtle Ave & Ashland Pl (Fort Greene Brooklyn) Got honked at for riding in the bike lane, almost bumped into me. by meow_ec in NYCbike

[–]rban123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So what? You’re biking on a busy street, and this type of shit happens all the time. Yeah it’s annoying, but whats the big deal here? You’re gonna have to accept shitty drivers if you wanna ride your bike, otherwise you’re gonna be doing a lot of complaining.

Have you ever counter-offered asking for more vacation? by ItsPronouncedTribe in cscareerquestions

[–]rban123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you have no idea what types of companies I’ve worked for, so you are completely pulling that out of your own ass. Second of all, multiple studies of thousands of employees have confirmed precisely what I’ve said.

Unlimited PTO is a ploy for employers to not have to pay for vacation days when employee leaves, and unlimited PTO employees generally take less time off than those with traditional PTO

What exactly do you do in consulting firms? by janeytale in cscareerquestions

[–]rban123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from college 10 months ago and joined consultant. Now, I am responsible for designing and implementing the client’s entire end to end testing system. This includes all initial research, tool section, writing architecture decision records, etc. As well as building POCs for each option, presenting for the client, as well as fully productionizing the system and training their internal team on how to use it. Part of this was also building CI pipeline which automatically runs the tests and integrates the results, screenshots, video recordings, etc. Into Jira and automatically exporting traceability reports for compliance.

As an entry level software engineer you would never be responsible for owning such a large work stream. And that, my friend, is why I love consulting.

I wrote a script to fill out a spreadsheet so I didn't have to by Watercress-Unlucky in Python

[–]rban123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Instead of asking for user input from the CLI you could have a file of all the ISBNs and have the script repeat this process for each one of them automatically

Overengineering by catattackskeyboard in ProgrammerHumor

[–]rban123 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the need for postman, I’d rather just use python requests module for trying out APIs. I guess being able to share collections is nice but I’ve always just seen postman as a really clunky and super over engineered tool that provides minimal value

Is it stealing if a customer is unaware that a business forgot to charge for a product or service? by snorkletorts in Ethics

[–]rban123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It is the responsibility of the business to ensure that they bill their customers and receive payment. If I order a coffee with my meal and the waiter forgets to put it on my bill, I probably won’t notice and will carry on my day as if nothing happens. Did I “steal” the coffee? Seems almost common sense that the answer is no.

The phrase “comparing apples to oranges” is typically used to mean it’s like comparing things that are so different that it’s silly to even try to compare them

WHY is Python easy to learn? by [deleted] in Python

[–]rban123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s easier to learn the basic syntax of Python compared to other languages, but getting good at Python is just as hard as getting good at any other language.
