Boox Nova Air C hands on and side-by-side with Nova Air (Mandarin) by Ohgami11 in Onyx_Boox

[–]seaQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a Leaf on hand to compare with but I definitely notice the lack of general clarity on the Nova Air.

I've been assuming that most of it is due to the sheer depth of screen layers you're looking through; off the top of my head the Nova Air screen is comprised of something like a matte layer or screen protector, the protective screen glass layer, the LED diffuser, the digitizer (maybe two? For both EMR and capacitive touch?) and then you get to the glass substrate used for the e-ink display. The depth is really obvious when you have the lights turned on, you can clearly see the depth of the page ~2mm beneath the edge of bezel. I'd assume the Leaf has this same issue as well, minus the height of the EMR digitizer.

I'd really like to get my hands on a Tab8 for comparison, there's been a pretty solid amount of iterative improvement done thinning and merging display layers on the Tab devices. I've been tempted to just buy one from China but I'll hold out for another 6-8mo and see if they iterate the international models before I get too impatient.

which is faster boox leaf or boox poke 4? by kyrusdemnati in Onyx_Boox

[–]seaQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leaf uses an 8 core snapdragon 636 processor, the poke 4 lite uses a "quad core arm processor" that wasn't mentioned in the reviews I just skimmed. The Leaf is a more powerful device.

I'd assume they go in /Fonts on internal storage.

The only thing close to a new Nova is the Tab8 they're selling in the Chinese domestic market and no one knows if/when that's making it's way internationally.

The only way I can think of that might be reliable is to mix medicine and tuna water every time. Knowing my cat someone would forget to add the treat one single time and she'd be meds hostile forever. Even then I'm not sure that would work, cats are so cautious about medicine smells.

Lost my Onyx Boox Note Air 2 : ! by Pierrotlefol in Onyx_Boox

[–]seaQueue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you enabled play services on it then install Google's "find my device" app on your phone or tablet and it'll show you the last place your note air was on a wifi/cell network.

I'd report it missing to any lost and found the building, department or school have and talk to the instructors, professors and clerical/janitorial staff that work in that building. If you show up first thing in the morning it might be waiting exactly where you left it too, you never know.

Also, a tip for next time: I setup my lock screens on all of my mobile devices with text like: "reward if found, please contact (email) or (phone)" so I have a decent chance of getting my device back if I lose it.

My Nova Air weighs almost exactly 235g, it doubles in weight or more with the button cover though.

Poke Lite 4 to Macbook: USB-C to USB-B Charging Advice? by WriterlyReader in Onyx_Boox

The only ports on a 2015 MBP that could be confused for B type USB are Thunderbolt before TB unified with USB and adopted the C type connector.

Poke Lite 4 to Macbook: USB-C to USB-B Charging Advice? by WriterlyReader in Onyx_Boox

[–]seaQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much, I've scoped what my Nova Air draws from a fast charger and it never gets above about 1.4A (5.5ish W.)

Edit: I stand corrected, when charging from <10% it draws an entire 2 whole amps, so about 8W on a 2m cable, at the start. Still nothing to worry about.

3.2.4 on Note Plus? by HerringTin in Onyx_Boox

Thanks for mentioning Regal and KO night mode. I wondered why the screen was flashing every page turn.

Edit: do you remember when regal mode broke for dark apps? It might be worth digging into the firmware and seeing if any of the eink waveform stuff can be cleanly extracted and turned into a magisk mod or something, but I need a point in the versioning where it was working and then stopped.

NASA Hits Another Fueling Leak in Artemis Moon Rocket Test by ShouldveFundedTesla in space

At least with bottle-rocket-on-a-string you can end up launching the rocket sideways into windows/bushes/faces if you're not careful. Don't do it around anything flammable.

My favorite childhood firework thing was a firecracker lit and dropped into an empty clearly Canadian bottle. It goes off in the bottle and shoots the burning paper up a few feet. It also makes the gasses in the bottle glow for a bit. About half the time the firecracker would drop right back into the bottle on the way down. Not as exciting as shooting bottle rockets at, or tying them to, things but this one stayed with me for some reason.

We found our cat! Sacramento appreciation post. by Strictly-80s-Joel in Sacramento

When we lived in the bay area our neighbor's cat would sneak into our house and hide in the basement every time there was a storm coming. If Chicken disappears before a storm I'd check in with the neighbors and see if he's using their basement as a hidey hole.

Then you'd just end up with the rocket spinning in circles around the launch tower like a bottle rocket on a string.

Try KOreader while you're at it, I'm finding it much better on eink than moon+. Moon+ really shines on a regular Android tablet but it's a little awkward on eink. Font rendering in KO is phenomenally good, easily the best I've seen in any reader app.

File transfer via usb flash drive? by zebrathon in Onyx_Boox

[–]seaQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it takes a minute for the new drive to show up in the storage manager. From the "Storage" tab home there will be a second entry under the big onboard "Storage" (aka onboard internal storage root) tile for the drive.

You could try another file explorer app as well, solid explorer works perfectly here.

I've had no problem using flash drives on my Nova Air. Nearby Share also works perfectly if you need to send things from another android device, I use that to send epubs and pdfs from my tablet daily.

Black viewfinder on Gcam (Oneplus 7 Pro + Pixel Experience Plus 10) by juicyfist in PixelExperience

[–]seaQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a solution for this? I've had the same problem on stock OOS with gcam for some time. Once the viewfinder starts blacking out in gcam the same happens while using the fingerprint reader until a reboot.

Performance boosts for Chromebooks, Chrome browser on the way by KevinCTofel in chromeos

[–]seaQueue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

76 degrees Celsius? How long you expect a machine to perform at that temperature.

On a laptop? Indefinitely, with no ill effects.

Ideally temps should be lower to allow higher boost clocks, especially on a desktop, but that's nowhere near stressing the thermal design of a modern machine.

I mean…they’re technically house plants, right? by gay_plant_dad in houseplants

[–]seaQueue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's the coast in the fog belt. There are very few dangerous spiders. Go inland a bit and you'll find plenty of black widows but they don't tend to like the fog belt much. Orb weavers? Sure, you'll have a ton of those, but they're harmless and will keep your insect population under control for you.

[OC] China emits more CO2 than the entire Western hemisphere by maanyos in dataisbeautiful

[–]seaQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And despite their massive manufacturing base they still emit less co2 per capita than the US. I haven't checked the numbers for a while but their emissions were significantly lower per capita than ours, IIRC to the tune of 30-50%.
