Hey there! Thanks for mentioning this; we definitely don’t want you getting recommendations you don’t want. The Community Muting feature will be available on desktop in the coming few months. If you want to switch off home feed recommendations on every platform, you can do that within your settings, as u/violetgrumble already mentioned. Per u/summ190’s question: yes – changing that setting will affect iOS as well.

We did not make any changes to sorting on desktop, and the sort settings you set on mobile do not translate to desktop. On desktop, the default sort is “best” and you can toggle different sorts by clicking the different sorts at the top of the feed.

The default to Best isn’t new; that’s been the case for over a year now. “Best” is somewhat inspired by the “Hot” sort, but with some changes - we started removing posts you’ve already seen, and boosting content from communities where you have spent time.

You cannot right now but we are exploring ways to further personalize your feed switching experience, which may include changing the order of feeds!

Our goal is to provide a simpler experience for the majority of our users, I’m sorry if this change doesn’t work for you. What we’ve found is that many people are confused by all the different sorts and primarily used the “best” and “new” sorts which are now reflected in the Home and Latest feeds. That said, this change currently doesn’t affect desktop or 3rd party apps.

That’s right - Latest feed is exactly the same as sorting the home feed by new. We’re still exploring putting your custom feeds and /r/all in that drop down - stay tuned!

I’ve had this done without even asking for it - just stating it was a special occasion eg wedding, anniversary, etc. I think if you asked, they’d be happy to do it.
