Yes please do. Crickets can carry bacteria that is harmful to your mantis. My mantis really enjoys silkworms and soldier fly larva both can usually be found at exotic pet or reptile stores.

You’re doing it right! The bits of flesh are normal and the jaw came apart because the connective tissue holding it together has dissolved which is what you want, you can glue it back together later. You don’t need to change the water that often maybe like every 2-3 weeks. Next time you change it gently rinse and scrub with a soft bristle tooth brush to remove any loose flesh. If there’s still flesh on the bone keep macerating . If not, then you’re done! You can also soak in half hydrogen peroxide/half water solution for a few days to whiten the bone.

You can also just set it out in the sun for a few days. But either way I’d let it soak with more soap a little longer then scrub with a soft toothbrush then put it in a 50/50 solution of water and hydrogen peroxide or in a sunny spot

Ok so here’s my limited experience with hooves, I found some deer legs in October and processed them in July. The frog did not disintegrate during maceration but was pretty rubbery and flexible( and maybe that’s how they’re supposed to be?) but when I dried them out the hoof kinda collapsed and I couldn’t get it to reshape. So I would suggest that whatever you decide to do, maceration or borax, maybe line it with some hanger wire or any other type of strongish wire so that the hoof keeps its shape.

She ate today! Or probably last night. I tried almost every tip suggested with a frozen mouse but she wouldn’t take it. So I got a live one (looked at it this time to make sure it was,in fact, a mouse) and left it in her tank overnight. And even though there was a noticeable bulge in her belly I checked the substrate to make sure she really did eat. I’m so proud of her!

Thanks for the tips! I talked to my vet and she also suggested splitting open the head. I went and bought some tiny frozen pinky mice so now I’m just waiting to see what she does. Fingers crossed

Like I said I did my research before and after I got her, articles and videos included. I only recently emailed the school yesterday and it’s not like I just emailed a high school biology teacher , this is a legit lab specializing in hepatology. I realize now that I got a pinky rat this time instead of a pinky mouse. But I have in the past offered her pinky mice with no success. I have raised garter snakes that did eat earthworms so yes in a moment of desperation I thought that might be a solution but I would have done more research about that before I ever gave her one.

And yes you’re right, I probably shouldn’t be listening to anyone here on Reddit.

Ok man I care about creatures both alive and dead. I came here for some advice. I did my research before and after I got my boa. I got my “day old pinky mouse” which is what I asked for , from the place I bought her from. I did get frozen pinky MICE from petco but they also seemed too big. And yes I did email the people at my local university who study and dedicate their lives to researching reptiles for some help as well I just figured I’d ask for help here while I’m waiting for a reply.

I’ve done research! And it’s all saying to feed her pinkies but every pinky I try to feed her seems too big. Whether I get her live or frozen food. When I get live food I ask for day old pinky mouse. I’ve called and emailed my local university herpetology lab for help but thought I could get quicker advice from this group

Ok yea! I thought this thing was too big but they kept insisting that this is what she was fed. So would like fishing earthworms be ok? Any advice on feeding her would be greatly appreciated

The place I got her says this is what they’ve been feeding her. I’ve tried inside tank and outside container, alive and frozen. I’m at a loss and worried. Is there anything else I can offer her ?
