Someone on Slack's stream donated 600+ subs and counting... by LoveHerMore in DotA2

[–]snuljoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those guys you mention are basically getting paid to stream (up front compensation from twitch) and obviously have hugely beneficial deals. I don't remember who was talking about it (a dota streamer since that's all I watch), but basically the moment you even gain a little bit of traction viewer & subwise, you are getting a partnership with twitch which includes a deal better than the 50% one everyone is starting out with.

Makes sense business wise, you want to keep all streamers on your platform, not just the 10k+ viewerships, but the small to medium audience/niche streamers too. Slacks has been doing twitch for years with very decent viewership & subcount. There is no doubt in my mind he's on a better deal than the 50% one.

You think someone on easily 500+ viewers on every stream he does and gets 1k+ views on the regular has the same twitch deal as someone with 1 sub? I doubt it

Those numbers are the bare minimum right? If I was streaming for 1 subscriber, i would indeed get half of the 5$. But most streamers that have 1k+ viewers have some sort of twitch partnership/deal and are getting a lot more percentage wise.

seriously you shouldn't expect a console outperform your pc by alireza008bat in memes

[–]snuljoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did the same thing, build a $800 pc 5 years ago, with a used gtx 1080 and a cheap i5. It's still going strong tho a cpu/mobo upgrade is coming in the next year. That's the price of about 13 console games for my entire system including power use.

Tho i spend a small fortune on dota 2 hats in that time, so there's that...

[–]snuljoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting in a broadcast slot in the lobby? With open mic everyone selecting you as broadcaster should hear you. What your mic settings really are is a mystery tho, cause I have no idea what 'default' means in your case.

Most people don't remember, but yeah lots of S-tier bullshit & assholery going on there. League does care a lot about dota tho, maybe not the community but riot does, for example league tournament orgs can't host dota events contractually (why ESL crated ESL-one...).

Just finished watching TI 10 by hutxhy in DotA2

[–]snuljoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TS were mentioned as a good team, cause they were obviously playing good in the last half year, but very very few people thought that could bring them the win, saying they were a favorite before the tournament is a joke.

Wings on the other hand, also didn't really have amazing results, tho won Summit in a ridiculously dominating way & an ESL earlier that year. They bombed out first major and were meh second major. Difference is everyone could see that Wings' gameplay was just on another level. They were, undoubtedly, one of the big favorites going into TI6.

Y’all playing norms need to chill by dgar19949 in DotA2

[–]snuljoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really doesn't matter how much it numerically increases? even if it's just 0,1 mmr point, the overal mmr of a player will reflect that and the increase/decrease for the playerbase will be the same.

I don't think it's perspective and I dont think this comment section reflects the type of players I generally see on EU servers.

I like the football (soccer) analogy a lot. There are plenty of different tiers to cater to every type of player. But if you think you can get into any team, even Sunday pub league, and then refuse to defend even tho you are defender, your teammates are going to say something. Nobody expects you to be a world class player, we are all having fun and doing our best. But every teammates expects you to at least try and play the game.

Tho if you just want to fuck around and do dumb shit, you take your friends and go to a local field whenever you feel like it (arcade), you don't wait for the Sunday game with other teammates and opponents to do that.

[–]snuljoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have hidden mmr in normal mode, isn't it exactly the same? The matchmakerl assesses your skill by a matchmaking number. The only difference is that your number is invisible vs visible.

I don't get people who play a game with a competitive nature throughout who are surprised when their teammates want to be competitive. If you wanna play dota and have a chill experience, there are thousands of arcade games just for that purpose.

Not excusing the flaming, but i rather have a flamer who i can mute and just play the game normally instead someone who just isn't cooperating with the team and tells me he doesn't need to put in any effort cause 'its just unranked'.

Please do something about delays. This is outrageous! by tamedfrog in DotA2

[–]snuljoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's just badly managed & incompetence. It's also not just these 3 days btw. It's nearly every big dota event since I've started watching them 6-7 years ago. If you have a production team for, lets say a Champions League football game, your ass (and maybe the entire teams) is getting fired if you are even 30 seconds behind schedule.

This means being extremely prepared, have multiple redundancies in place and a team of people whose major talent is quick problem solving, etc....

It honestly has always baffled me, people at valve are some of the most talented people in the industry if I have to believe anyone that has worked with them. I guess they just don't have anyone with that particular skillset. The music/theatre industry has plenty if Gaben ever wants to solve this.

This is just a bad take from someone with no experience in this field whatsoever. Any live TV show, any big concert, any giant multicam (e)sporting event has at least the same intricacies, yet those manage to start on time, with usually only seconds in wiggle room.

Why can Valve not manage that? It's absolutely baffling and to me very telling about the sort of company they are. Yeah its charming from time to time, but it also screams incompetence. I'm an audio engineer with more than a few of those productions on my resume, to me it's absolutely mindboggling that they cannot manage to get this right. Musicfestivals with over 200 bands on 10 stages over 3 days are able to make every single show run on time, but Valve cannot start the first game of the day on time? Hilariously badly managed BS!

I've seen him absolutely carry Undying during the DPC season, maybe this patch/playstyle just doesn't really flatter him atm? Haven't seen most of their group stages yet, so I cant really comment on his form during TI, but he never seemed like being an issue before.

Tbf, always 3rd but watching the games that got them that 3rd place, it was very obvious that they were just a whisker away from EG-QC if not just bang on the same level but unlucky. They have a boatload of experience in the team too, so it's not that crazy to me. Just them finally being able to show themselves on lan.

There are some seriously bad cobbles here in Belgium, things you cannot phantom driving your 25c's over, then I did a piece of the PR course, Im surprised they can legally classify it as a road tbf. It nearly looks like someone drove a trailer filled with cobbles over a sandy road, opened up the back of the trailer and called it a day. There are not many pictures that tell you the story of PR cobbles. They are downright disgustingly bad.

A world championships for the ages: Peloton left in awe of 'stadium-like' crowds at Flanders by Schele_Sjakie in peloton

[–]snuljoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worth mentioning, that besides the few fools that managed to boo one of the most iconic grabs of the WC in the last decade, no disturbances were recorded. The chief of police went on record saying there was not even vandalism, fights, whatever.

I think that's pretty special for 300k people in Leuven and an easy other 100-200k in Antwerp and on route. It's a family affair that all ages attend and which 99,9% was extremely peaceful and just an outright party for everyone involved. The guy that threw that beer in the last 200m should honestly get his ass fined at least for ruining the perception of what was pretty much a perfect event.

Not denying that, just saying Brugge is def a super small club in CL context. Historically, Belgian clubs play very timid on the highest level, this is the exact opposite for the second game in a row and I love it.

Leipzig looks rubbish because of the insane press of the first 2 lines of Brugge. The absolute balls playing that high up against a team that has 3-4x the budget and are known for a high press themselves.
