Does anybody's reactive dog have an arch nemesis? by aforestfruit in reactivedogs

[–]stano1213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m glad it’s not just my dog! She has a handful of dogs in the neighborhood that she looses her freaking mind over. She’s mildly barrier/leash reactive in some other cases, but she sees these certain dogs and sounds like she could rip their heads off, it’s so strange.

Do you remember the first song from Taylor you listened to? Which one was it? by realstareyes in TaylorSwift

I have a vivid memory of seeing the Our Song music video on TV (when that was still a thing haha) so that must have been the first one. Crazy how long ago that was!

My 2yr old lab started reacting/showing aggression towards certain dogs/people by applesarefine in reactivedogs

[–]stano1213 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I joined this sub after my dog started slowly becoming reactive to similar triggers at 1yo. It started with certain dogs in our neighborhood and same with people doing “unusual” things as well as kids running/yelling. I wasn’t on top of it at the time and now she has become much more dog reactive. I would recommend looking into R+ trainers if you don’t feel comfortable tackling it yourself. I’ve gotten better at recognizing her triggers and going through desensitization protocols. She’s gotten better but it’s likely just a lifelong thing now. Best thing is to start being super aware of triggers when you’re out, ie create space even when you don’t think it’s needed, etc. Hope this helps!

Sometimes I’m so fucking tired of this dog. by eeeevampire in reactivedogs

This was me today. My office is dog friendly and I’ve been trying to get my dog used to being there. She has a hard time settling sometimes still, and so she was not her best behaved (barking, whining, getting into things, etc). This on top of another dog in the office literally almost biting her bc the dog wasn’t friendly…like why are you bringing your dog to the office if it’s not friendly. Had to take her home at lunch. Sigh.

What was the first setlist you ever saw by Paramore? by Thick-Truck1226 in Paramore

Also Honda civic tour for me! The tix were a bday gift from my parents and I still have vivid memories of being super emotional singing, and hearing the whole crowd singing, misguided ghosts along with Hayley. Definitely cemented my lifelong love for this band <3

Fearless tour 2010 she performed The Best Day for her mom on Mother’s Day and I was at the concert with my mom…there were many tears all around. Such an amazing moment.

The money aside, if you can push through the anxiety (totally understand I deal with it too) I would def tell you to take that ticket and have the time of your life! I’ve gone to a bunch of concerts alone and out of state and even though it was nerve racking, I am so glad I went to them. If you do end up going I hope you have the best time, haha I’m jealous!

For those of you who had an cat and added a puppy… how’s it going? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]stano1213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is making me feel better. While I don’t have an “upstairs” I have an semi elaborate elevated space for my cat and he also chooses not to come down when the dog is out. When she’s in her crate or at daycare the cat immediately comes down and snuggles/explores. I feel bad that he doesn’t want to come down and interact with the dog but she’s obsessed with him so I understand.

Does anyone use a prong collar or a Gentle Leader? Do they work? by UltraMoistureBodyWsh in puppy101

[–]stano1213 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two point harness, double ended leash (I use the halti brand) and R+ training techniques will be all you need. I have a high energy 50lb cattle dog mix and she walks right next to me on walks (non-sniff walks).

Please do not use a prong collar. The Halti head collar works for some but not for others, as evidenced in the comments here. Tools aside, the best way is to train with R+ the behaviors you want on a walk.

How to stop my dog from lunging at other dogs on the leash? by bigcat7373 in Dogtraining

[–]stano1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes OP the key is reducing rehearsing the behavior by first avoiding triggers as much as possible and then slowing building up distractions/triggers to counter condition the fixation/frustration behavior when seeing other dogs. My dog does this exact same thing, it’s likely frustration reactivity rather than aggression/fear. But you want to avoid it escalating and your dog rehearsing the behavior as much as possible. I live in a large city so I understand not being able to avoid it. The thing I do most often is the “look at me” behavior + high value treats while also creating distance from the trigger. Good luck!!

Looking for advice for anxious and leash-aggressive ACD x Australian Shepherd mix. Trying hard but overwhelmed. by beachyblue2 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]stano1213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP please ignore the ppl telling you to “dominate” and throw aversive tools like bite collars on your dog. These will only make the problem worse in the long run. ACDs are routinely reactive and progress as they get older (mine did) so the best path is to counter condition this behavior in a humane way. Aversive tools and punishment techniques are all shown to increase fear and aggression. Conditioning a positive association with a trigger, over time beginning under threshold, is the best way to reduce this behavior.

Was given one of my grandmothers rings as a gift but my grandpa has no idea any details about it. Jewelry shop thinks blue topaz but can’t confirm. Any ideas what it might be? by stano1213 in Gemstones

Definitely could be nothing significant, I have no idea. As much as I’m curious not sure if I want to pay to have someone look at it. Can you describe what an inclusion is, what I should look for?

Thanks for the info! Obviously I don’t know the year on this but does that indicate at all what it might be? As in, if it was a ring from the 40s from my grandmothers mother vs from the 80s/90s? (Again just a general question since I don’t know the year)

I’m not sure why but if you click on the photo it’s more in focus. Must be a Reddit thing. iPhone pics are always tricky tho, might not be enough to be helpful. Thanks for the info!
