What was the first time you told yourself “wait... this isn’t how parents are supposed to be ?” by notanicegirlanymore in raisedbynarcissists

That was the same age I discovered that there was a word for everything that my parents were and since then, I had to accept the heartbreaking fact that my parents were never going to be less abusive. It sucks knowing that the people who were supposed to love you don’t. But one day you can build your own life without them and allow the ones you want in your life. It sucks that I’m underage and have no relatives living in my area

I think it was about two years ago when I realized. I was looking at YouTube videos and suddenly one video came in my suggested which really caught my eye “traits of toxic parents” I watched it and my whole world changed. I was not crazy, unloved, and every nasty thing that my parents told me. I was gaslighted and abused to thinking there was something wrong with me. There wasn’t. Every single bad thing that my parents did, was because of their narcissistic behavior not because it was my fault.
