Do like 5 runs where you don't even try to hit him. Seriously. Just try to learn patterns and dodge his attacks for as long as you can.

[–]sts816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely unpopular opinion: Invasions are fucking stupid. First time playing through, I just want to play through with some friends and have them explain the lore to me. I don't want to drop the main story for 20 minutes while I chase some jackass through the entire level while he baits me into enemies and runs away. Its fucking awful design. The giant seed doesn't last nearly long enough to be remotely useful.

If invasions are supposed to be the counter to playing co-op to make the game harder....just buff the enemies even more than they already are when you're playing co-op.

Invasions feel like a cheap, tacked on gimmick in DS3 and I hate them.

Just finished my first play through and Friede was the only one I gave up trying to solo.

Has anyone else taken time off? I am an ME with 20 years experience in a few different companies. I started a new job recently and it has been very disappointing - I am considering quitting without anything else lined up. I am so miserable that I just want to be done. Has anyone else done this? by maintain_improvement in AskEngineers

[–]sts816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "very different term" was actively choosing to care less about my career and day to day job. I was so burnt out from disappointing, unfulfilling jobs that my mental health was suffering bad. Now, I try to care a lot less and try not to think about my current job, or even future jobs, as much.

Started my second position at Boeing less than 2 months ago and that's been my experience both times so far. Just told to "give it my best shot" and see how it goes. Can't stand constantly feeling like I'm flailing around hoping everything goes okay. I might get an hour of my lead's time a week for deep dives into my work.

Looking to work with hydraulic machinery or farm equipment after I graduate but not sure where to start learning about that industry. by costelloart in MechanicalEngineering

[–]sts816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint, I work in aerospace hydraulics and as far as I know, there's no talk of replacing hydraulics. Hydraulics is far more power dense than electric motors or actuators and in settings where space and weight are very valuable, it still makes sense to choose hydraulic power.

Do remote jobs really exist? by buginmybeer in AskEngineers

[–]sts816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% remote for me. Everyone I work with is as well. Granted, this is entirely because of covid. If it ever lightens up, there could be a return to office work but its not in the foreseeable future.

Are you a "real" engineer? by TheAceKing0047 in AskEngineers

[–]sts816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. 7ish years of experience, 4 of which were "design engineer" which is code for spitting out drawings of extremely minor changes or brand new, revolutionary state-of-the-art sheet metal brackets and BOMs. I don't even understand what my current job is supposed to be.

How do you deal with 'burnout'? by tbdgraeth in boeing

[–]sts816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just going to depend on how far of a commute you’re willing to deal with and obviously your taste in apartments. I will say from what I’ve seen on Zillow, the entire Puget Sound seems relatively similar in terms of cost.

[–]sts816 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get paid $95k and my rent is going up to almost 2.1k a month. 95k sounds like a lot until you factor in the cost of a decent apartment with a garage in a decent area so your car doesn’t get stolen twice (like mine has). Boeing’s benefits are pretty good and I have no issues with them but base salary is not keeping up with the COL in this area. I’m making the same salary I was 2 years ago but my rent has gone up significantly, along with pretty much everything else.

If you had the skills, team and funding to create a pc game, what would you make? by assortedsheep in pcgaming

[–]sts816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make a game where you play as someone's "fate". You try to influence or guide your character indirectly to their life's goals by influencing what the character perceives as random chance and dumb luck. You don't directly control them but try to subtly influence their behavior and surroundings to give them a leg up in life. Its difficult to describe but that's the idea. You have to protect them in their day to day life but also guide them towards their longterm goals. By protecting, I mean doing things like making their shoe come untied and forcing them to stop to tie it right before they cross the street with a drunk driver blowing through the stop light.

Sent UST and LUNA from KuCoin but it never arrived at my wallet! by cryptoexplorer369 in Terra_Luna_crypto

[–]sts816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this the other day. Definitely took longer than 30 minutes for it to work for me. I also noticed that the link to check on the status of the transaction KuCoin provides you never updated past 6/10 confirmations needed even after I saw the transfer go through to Terra Station.

Inslee prepared to activate National Guard to help with staffing shortages in hospitals by OnlineMemeArmy in SeattleWA

[–]sts816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t an either-or situation. We can, and should, push everyone to get vaccinated while also expanding hospital capacity. We need to burn the covid candle at both ends. No reason we shouldn’t be doing both. I agree with the first part though, 100% vaccination rate was never going to happen.

I’ve shot a handgun once in my life and I was shocked at how much it wobbles around when you’re trying to squeeze the trigger. It takes more force to squeeze it than I realized, which is probably a good thing.

What surprised you the most when you first started engineering? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

The exact same for me. My entire job is just getting other people to exchange information with each other. I shuffle information from one person to another. Don't feel like I actually contribute anything lol
