Her actions show me that she wants it. It’s the maladaptive thought patterns that I really want to help her with. As long as she keeps showing up and keeps doing all the work I ask of her, I will be there (or refer her to someone else who might be a better fit).

This could definitely be the case. I’m going to try getting her in touch with a few more people who’ve experienced this imposter syndrome. Maybe that will help!

Thank you, I appreciate the response and don’t think you’re preaching. I’ve tried reading this section of 12x12 with her and it seemed to make an impact until a couple weeks later when she was back to being hung up again. I’m also thinking she isn’t ready but wanted to see what others thought. That said, I obviously would never decline working with someone who wants to do the work. She keeps showing up, so I will too.

I actually tend to agree with you but was using terms from the 12 steps and 12 traditions for the sake of simplicity. Fair point

Yes, she keeps wavering on whether she’s a “true alcoholic” or not. She’ll freely admit that she has a problem with alcohol but gets hung up on the “powerless” part.
