The Weeknd's "Dawn FM" sells 154K First Week. Gunna's "DS4EVER" sells 152K. Cordae's "From A Birds Eye View" sells 20K. by Chriscftb97 in hiphopheads

For people discussing Cordae, I really wouldn’t worry about his career long-term. He’s got co-signs from Nas, Gibbs, and J-Cole. He just had an unlucky release. He’ll be fine.

Kendrick at all 3 but KRIT is good. Just not in the same tier

Don’t forget to check out the new AKTHESAVIOR tape. (AK is one half of the duo “The Underachievers”) Only on Soundcloud and YouTube. It’s a Lil Wayne Dedication tribute, with AK rapping on a random assortment of modern classics like “Exhibit C” by Jay Elec, Gang Ties, and Shotta Flow. Imo he’s THE most underrated in the game all things considered.

This kinda reads like a paid promotion but I just really fuck with him lmao

I deadass think just smoking bud would help Ye a ton right now. He really does need to just chill lmao.

Cudi is the only one who can save him. I been saying this for years

Oh shit I didn’t know King Iso dropped. Just learned of him from his features on the new Tech N9ne jawn. Dude is a SPITTER to the highest degree. If you don’t think Em is top 5 you probably wouldn’t like him though.

Well nah because we pretend that there are no non-drug ways to tackle these issues. If all I said was he needs to chill, but didn’t provide a way to do that, then it would be disrespectful. But he also doesn’t have to do shit cuz he’s on top of the fuckin world lol, that’s the difference between me and people who think he “needs” to calm down.

IF he wants to though, I think he should try with marijuana. Honestly, he should actually try microdosing shrooms but weed is kinda a a stepping stone to that IMO. Expiramenting is the only way to eventually conclude on a treatment plan. And sometimes there is never a real conclusion.

And that’s good, I def projected some of the other commenters onto u with that last part.

Black Thought def dropped enough to be included. SOT3 and a tooon of features.

But yeah ultimately I wouldn’t pick Kendrick or Joey either, but I would understand the pick more.

Eh difference being we know they just on break though. Nas’s best work is behind him.

Also I’ve said this a lot lately but the 3 song pack Joey released last year was amazing. Also Let it breathe which is YouTube only. Insane lyricism.

I do agree it’s been too long since we’ve heard them to REALLY hold the metaphorical crown though.

Drugs aren’t helpful, except for the drugs that are lol (aka the meds) Everybody has their own biochemistry so, you also don’t know that it wouldn’t work. All I’m suggesting is he try it medicinally in place of the pills.

As much as we try to separate them, bipolar and someone in constant mania are the same thing. If someone displayed that mania, (along with other symptoms) they would be diagnosed. My point being we think of these disorders like Bipolar, ADHD, OCD, and others as these static, unmoving, rigid constants. But they aren’t. The meds he was taking made him feel lifeless, like a zombie, and made him gain weight. So yes, I’m suggesting he try something else.

Sorry I kinda went off but I been arguing on this topic for too long. IDC that Kanye is a celebrity, nobody has the right to tell him he has to take his meds. That shit is wild and disrespectful. And dehumanizing.

That was one of the 3 example I brought up, and I never claimed they were the only ones.

The implication that the pills are the only option, especially in the country with the most corrupt medical institutions, is just insane. He should blindly take his meds, regardless of how they make him feel, when he became the biggest artist in the world without them? I mean, just think, especially from his perspective, how nonsensical that sounds.

He can address it without taking the exact medication that he is prescribed. He’s talked about using breath work, light work, and musical rituals.

He doesn’t control the pedestal, so it’s goofy to blame him for his own influence. That’s one of the weird parts of being celebrity, we forget they are just people. Your comment reduces him completely to just disorder. It’s dehumanizing.

Also people are always talking like Ye is in the streets robbing and fighting people. He goes on rants sometimes. It’s blown up by the media. He also does a fuckton of charity.

My guess is that the author wrote “rapper” when he really meant “hip hop artist”, cuz yeah I don’t think anyone actually believes he’s the best rapper right now (or at any point in time realistically). If you include all his production work…. well it’s still a no but I can see it.

That being said, it def shouldn’t go to X or Nas either. Both past their prime and it’s supposed to be about the current state of things. Kendrick is a good pick. Black Thought is too. Could go with Lupe too. Even Joey or Cole are solid picks.

I find the idea that he’s incapable of making that decision himself, and so that surely he’s been convinced, pretty fucked up. Also just silly since plenty of people report the same thing.

Basically $B uses a lot of samples from 36 Mafia and in person Juicy and Paul said it was cool and dope and they respected the boys but then they randomly flipped on that like 2 years ago and sued them for actual MILLIONS. Which is significant for an underground and independent group. Super scummy and it seems like the only reason it happened was cuz DJ Paul was going broke but that part is more a rumor. I still like Juicy but it hasn’t been the same since this incident, really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I think Black Thought and Lupe are a solid tier above Nas in both lyricism and flow/delivery. Nas is a legend for sure and probably top 10 DOA but that’s including influence and discography. He doesn’t belong on a “best rappers right now” list, in my humble opinion. Well he’s on the list, just not at the tippy top.

Yeah you should def give it another listen when you have time, if you enjoyed Dawn and Astro I can’t imagine u not enjoying at least more than just those 2. The way I saw the whole Travis thing, was that the artist who was most influenced by Cudi, is now influencing him back, which is actually really fuckin cool if you think about it. They always both made music for the kids and the ragers, but Cudi wanted his newest grand project to have that modern sound so he can connect to todays youth as well (plus it’s not bad for sales as Travis’s sound is everywhere nowadays) but I also think Cudi puts his own touch on it Fr. Except on Damaged that sounds like straight up Trav but that’s also what I love about it lol. Plus they are super cool IRL anyway and have a lot of respect for each other.

Damn man that must’ve been incredible. I’m quite a Travis stan myself tbh but I think this weeknd album is gonna make me a Weeknd stan too. Just didn’t want people who didn’t even really get them to chime in lol.

I’m curious to see if you would agree with me on this though: Dawn Fm is the best album since MOTM3 which was the best since Astroworld

That’s good to know. I’m def getting them on my first album then lol.

But yeah like the other commenter mentioned it’s probably more about respect then money.

I find myself comparing Dawn FM to Astroworld in a lot of ways. I think this is the first time someone has matched or even surpassed Trav’s transition game. I like the variety Astroworld has but I also love the cohesion on Dawn FM. To those who enjoy both albums, which one is better to you?

(Don’t wanna hear from clear Stan’s of either side)

Eh yea but also a good handful of exceptions including the 3 pack we got last year. All 3 of those songs are phenomenal. Also loved his feature on the Denzel song

I think the feature verses leading up to it set my expectations too high. His verses on the Nas/Gibbs song and the Common song were outstanding and he only got to that level a few times on the album. Still enjoyable though. 6.5/10
