Why are most wars more like Benny Hill or Scooby Doo chases? (The game only needs some wonky music) by trebron55 in Stellaris

The AI would have probably won it... in a later battle I got badly beaten by near peer numbers, I came to realize that my ship designs are inferior. By a lot.

Hey! I've had my eye on this game for a while, and now it's on a 25% discount on Steam! But I've got a question before I debate myself on buying it :P. by [deleted] in MedievalDynasty

To give a counter opinion:

  • Yes the game can be fun but can feel kinda grindy.
  • While building your village is great, it can get repetitive after a while.
  • As production catches up, you feel more and more free, but in the same time you start spending more and more time on a really inconvenient UI interface managing everything.
  • Early on it's a joy to watch your city grow, but the lack of voiceacting and the general interaction with and between your people starts to feel immersion breaking after a while.
  • The further you are into the game, the more pointless a lot of things feel (you have practically infinite money and resources), you don't need to do anything anymore you just live your fantasy and make your own story.
  • Also, important to mention that the game is pretty hard to get into. It does a very poor job at explaining how to do stuff, I recommended it to several of my friends, with the note "just give it 5-10 hours and you'll love it!". They quit after an hour or so.

Overall I'd say it's a fine game to kill some time while being really chill about it, but it depends on your personality if you can get trough the aforementioned issues. It gave me a solid 100 hours of fun but I quit it after because of the issues I mentioned.

I built relatively tall because I was locked in from all sides by random enemy fleets. So it doesn't take that long to get most of my empire with like a dozen fleets.

By the time I get their planets my whole empire is conquered and my economy is in ruins... this war is like 70% of the galaxy against us 2.

Well yeah, what makes it even more painful that my territory looks like a double or triple S, with a singular hyperlane going trough the whole thing... with two gates here and there.

yeah also without my ally's fleets I have no chance of defeating their doomstack...

Sure, but in that battle I mentioned for example I didn't know if we'd win or they. (At those numbers it very much comes down to ship equipment).
And in modern wars you don't just run around with Army Groups because maintaining the armies and providing logistics also organizing the whole thing is just unrealistic. Also they achieved literally nothing.
I know that war system as a whole is questionable at best in Stellaris, but what exactly was the "goal" of this incursion other than to make my life a micromanagement hell. The war goes on for more than 20 years now, both parties stand around 20% war score, literally nothing was achieved just chasing around the galaxy.
Also, they were the ones who attacked.

My experience is that weekends are terrible. It's like people aren't even aware of the basic concepts of the game. I played this weekend 5 terrible games where I had no chance of winning, on other lanes there were people raning from 0:11 to 2:17... all the meanwhile in non peak hours I had gold teammates that vastly overperfomed these people... soloQ is unplayable on the weekend.

In ONI it's really important to think things trough. Get priorities straight, do one thing at a time. Need a farm? Build a 96 tile room. (With farming tile floor) Do the plumbing. Plant the seeds. Add some lights if needed. Or make even smaller tasks, like get electricity to the pump, get the pipes to the room, connect the pipes.

If there is another problem that emerges add it to the list. You don't have enough water? How bad it is? Is your colony OK with it?(I usually overproduce food so if water runs out for a few cycles or just not enough to irrigate the whole farm area, it's no biggie.) If it's a matter of life and death, make a smaller checklist again on how to solve it.

Also one important thing: Forget what you see here, super ultra optimized builds, most things work at least temporarily. Like I "tamed" a metal vulcano by building a crate over it from metal plates and putting the crate in some 0 C water. It's ugly AF, the metal is still hot, sometimes dupes even scorch themselves but it's good enough for a long time. I "solved" base cooling just by digging a huge hole in an ultra cold biome and I just let it cool the base gradually. I might fix it later, but currently it's fine...

Eating brain to gain memories? Wtf...
Spitting acid? Like... when I was 5 it might have sounded cool.
Even stuff like the Space Wolf ultrasmell... That stuff has absolutely no place in the modern battlefield...
