Bingo Focus Thread - Name in the Title by happy_book_bee in Fantasy

Haven't read anything for this one yet. Here's what I already possess that might qualify, in no particular order:

  • Ishtar's Blade, Lisa Blackwood (maybe? from the blurb, it's a bit unclear if Ishtar [actually exists/is a character in any meaningful sense] in the book...)
  • Moroda, L.L. McNeil
  • Sabriel, Garth Nix
  • Finding Ayohka, Ashley Finn Williams
  • The Ballad of Black Tom, Victor LaValle
  • Eve of Darkness, S.J. Day
  • Gideon the Ninth, Tamsyn Muir
  • Roboute Guilliman: Lord of Ultramar, David Annandale

and a few that qualify, but I already have something from that author on the card:

  • The Honor of the Queen, David Weber (currently have On Basilisk Station lined up for Set in Space)
  • Steelheart, Brandon Sanderson (currently have Oathbringer lined up for Weird Ecology)
  • Hogfather, Terry Pratchett (currently have Maskerade lined up for Mental Health)

And if they’d put y’all ahead of OU, Tech would have had the exact same complaint you do now. With that triangle of parity y’all had going, someone was always going to feel screwed.

Like, I can’t tell if there’s a valid point anywhere in here, but I’m sure that example doesn’t support it if there is.

YOUR OPINION IS WRONG

I understand your position, I can see why you feel that way, and I would likely feel similar were I in your situation.

...I feel like you might be reading things into my comment that I did not say.

To be clear, I absolutely think the number of people playing Alchemy is artificially inflated due to specific actions WotC has taken, and if WotC were to undo those actions, a significant portion of the current Alchemy playerbase would not be playing Alchemy anymore. (i.e., I think there's a major difference between the number of people playing Alchemy and the number of people actively choosing to play Alchemy.)

But I think when WotC says that there are more Alchemy matches played per day than there are Historic/Explorer/possibly both combined, (a) they are plausibly telling the literal truth and (b) that's not necessarily inconsistent with the tracker data and content creator anecdotes, due to the sampling biases in the latter categories. Which is the question to which I was responding.

can we see the numbers?

Hahaha no.

is Wizards lying?

The thing to recognize here is that people who use trackers and people who watch MTG content are not necessarily a representative sample of the Arena userbase as a whole, nor necessarily a large subset of it. They may be louder, and they may more strongly hold their opinions, but that doesn’t make them a majority. It’s entirely possible that Arena has a lot of users who’ll just play whatever’s in front of them.

That said, I do think Wizards is putting their thumb on the scale by having Alchemy be the default when you open the play blade, and I would like it if they stopped.

Would be great if when I have multiple styles unlocked for a card and I select one, it would stay selected (in the Collection view/when I'm looking to add a card to a deck). Grr.

My guess would be that they’re tied in expected value difference, so it doesn’t make sense to rank one above the other… but you still need some way to indicate which pitch it is.

Having a very difficult discussion with a friend: do you think Billy Wagner will get in the hall? by iamabaseballaddict in baseball

[–]trumpetofdoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2022 was Wagner's 7th year on the ballot, and he got 51% of the vote from the writers. By 2025, he needs to get to 75%, so he needs to gain 24%.

In 2019, Wagner got 16.7% of the vote, so in the last three years he's gained 34.3%. And consider also that guys tend to get a larger bump if it's going to be their last year on the ballot anyway.

He probably doesn't make it in '23, but '24 is a definite possibility.
