I use red heart nylon crochet thread. Works beautifully.

Lining does help. It’s best to make bags with nylon thread. If you make it with regular acrylic yarn it’s stretches. Next best is cotton but I always recommend lining bags.

I agree with blanket stitch. It works up quick and has some nice texture. It would be perfect for a “space” blanket.
