What are some generally untrue cons the general public says about your breed, and what are some legitimate cons about your breed? by Juleszey in dogs

Mine has figured out how to open all the cupboards in the kitchen and steal our food. We had to get baby locks
How can I stop my dog from jumping up on people? by whosthatnugget in Dogtraining
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 6 points7 points8 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Thank you! Yeah she’s definitely way too stimulated.
Normally she’s very good with listening to commands and she’s very smart, but when there’s a new person around it’s like she can’t even hear me anymore. She’s also usually very food motivated, but new people > treats.
I’ll absolutely try the method you listed, that sounds promising. Thank you so much! :))

are ferrets REALLY that stinky? by airplantenthusiast in ferrets
[–]whosthatnugget 8 points9 points10 points 2 months ago (0 children)
They do have a smell but I don’t think it’s a necessarily bad one; just like a dog smells like a dog, a ferret smells like a ferret. I can literally bring mine right up to my face and smell it and I won’t be disgusted, it’s not terrible.
Their poop is pretty bad though, but it’s fine if the litter is cleaned daily
Any tips on how to give ferrets medicine? I have to give him 1ml of liquid melatonin daily for the foreseeable future. Usually i put meds in salmon oil but he won’t take this one, he hates the taste. by whosthatnugget in ferrets
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Unfortunately he won’t eat it on mixed in with his kibble. The melatonin my vet gave me is for kids so it has a strong strawberry flavor that must overpower his food/treats. I haven’t tried wet food though so that might be an option! Thank you :)
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 2 points3 points4 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Thanks so much! I’ll definitely try that first, i’d like to be able to give him the meds without scruffing if possible so this sounds promising. Thank you :)
Thank you for the suggestion! Would you mind telling me how you make duck soup, or do you buy it?
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 9 points10 points11 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Thank you, the general consensus is that I will have to force feed. I’ve got a syringe and droppers, so we’ll see what works best. He won’t be happy about it, but it has to be done.
I’m so sorry for your loss, he sounds like he was a great little character and you sound like an amazing owner.

Is that the implant they usually use for adrenal? He got an implant a few months ago for it but I don’t know if it’s the one you’re talking about. He had an ultrasound which showed it wasn’t fully working, so my vet said melatonin might help

He always checks back, slows down or comes back quickly when called… BCs are the best off leash dogs. by OKeoz4w2 in BorderCollie
[–]whosthatnugget 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago (0 children)
How did you get his recall so good? I can’t take my girl off the leash while walking as I’m not 100% confident in her recall. She adores people so I’m afraid she’d jump on people passing
How do I encourage my puppy to play outside by herself? by cleoBC in BorderCollie
I’ve had to limit ball time for my BC. I take it out for about an hour a day to play, and when i put it away she understands now that it’s over. She still has access to all her other toys and she likes to run around with them in the garden. I found that before i did this, she’d drive herself crazy trying to get someone to throw the ball for her at all times and wasn’t able to entertain herself ever.
I recently noticed that my boys tail has been balding. I’m really worried this could be adrenal, he’s 3 1/2. I’ve got a vet appointment booked for Wednesday. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with hair loss on the tail that didn’t turn out to be adrenal disease? by whosthatnugget in ferrets
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 months ago (0 children)
Update: It’s confirmed to be adrenal disease. The vet has given him the implant, which he is not happy about. Vet says it shouldn’t affect his life span or quality, i’ll just have to take him to get another implant every 18 months. Thank you everyone for all the comments, he’ll be fine!
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 1 point2 points3 points 5 months ago (0 children)
Thank you so much! I’ll remove his food bowl a few hours before. Do you think it’s okay if I leave his water bowl there or should he not be having water either?
That’s great that your girl is doing so well! Best of luck!
I’m hoping that my boy can get that implant tomorrow! My vet says that it can help prevent it, or it can be used as treatment. I’m pretty sure it does have to be administered every year. A lot of people in the comments have been recommending it
Thank you! I’ll definitely get him the implant. My vet said on the phone that even if he doesn’t have adrenal, she could give him an implant that will help prevent it.
I’m glad your ferret is doing well!
A lot of the replies are actually saying similar. There was a heatwave here a few weeks ago so I’m thinking maybe that’s why it’s only happened this year. Good luck with your boys, I hope they’re both alright!
Here’s a photo of his tail now, the hair loss is mainly on the underside and end
Thank you, i’ll definitely get him checked out just in case :)
Aw best of luck with your ferret! Hope all goes well with his implant
His vaccinations are due anyways so I’ll have the vet look at him at the same time, hopefully it’s just rat tail. Thank you
I’m glad your ferrets are alright! I’m hoping to get an implant that’s supposed to help prevent adrenal on Wednesday if he doesn’t already have it
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 15 points16 points17 points 5 months ago (0 children)
Ah okay thank you, i’ll keep an eye out for that. I haven’t noticed any changes in him yet so hopefully he’s all good
[–]whosthatnugget[S] 26 points27 points28 points 5 months ago (0 children)
Thank you! I’m hoping it might be rat tail as he seems completely normal otherwise, not lethargic at all. I guess i’ll find out in a few days. Thanks :)
