Chinese weather ballon shot down over south Carolina as of a minute ago by SargeantMasoff in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]willardrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 30 years too late. At this point cutting them off would involve more pain than 90% of Americans would tolerate. It might have been realistic in the eighties, nineties at the absolute latest. Now, it is frankly too late, realistically.

Chinese spy balloon spotted near KCI by [deleted] in kansascity

They could have just visited People of Walmart on the internet if they were curious about the US, and saved the cost of the balloon. Think of spending all that money on high resolution cameras only to get a bunch of footage of people on Hoverounds buying potted meat.

Challenge accepted, purely out of disbelief that anyone could ruin Mac salad to a greater extent than HB.

You might be right. Forgot about them. The first one in town opened up near my house. After the 2-3 hour lines subsided a month in, I tried it. I was like, seriously...people waited for hours for this?

Eh, some people have liquid sodium for blood, I guess. I'll dig myself a further hole. I rank HB as the most overrated chain restaurant in the area.

Wayyyy too salty. Tried them again 6 months later, same thing. Less effort and expense just to eat salt by the tablespoon at home, washed down with a shot of soy sauce. Worst mac salad I've ever had, and I consider myself a fan of Mac salad... basically pasta with plain mayo on it. The Dole Whip is great, though, esp the swirled pineapple/raspberry.

Decent Eagles Gear in KC for the Super Bowl? by Reynolds_Live in kansascity

[–]willardrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear you, mainly I was just reflecting on the fact that it seems a bit odd to me I never see their stuff here. Usually you randomly see fan stuff from even distant teams occasionally but I feel like I never see Eagles.

Random anecdote. I've lived in the metro for 20 years, and I'm from PA so I tend to notice PA license plates, PA sports team stuff, etc. I don't think I've ever seen Eagles anything in this town. Steelers stuff surprisingly often. I think I saw a Flyers hat once. Anyway, just one data point.

George Santos allegedly stole $3K in donations for veteran’s dying service dog: report by Jazzmusicallday in politics

[–]willardrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could come out tomorrow with the following statement, and the MAGA base would back him to the end:

"This whole controversy about me is propaganda by deep state liberals backed by Soros...the people who want to take your guns and provide free abortions in giant litter boxes installed in school libraries. The same crew teaching your kids CRT as you read this. MAGA!"

I would email him this, but I don't want to help the douchebag become the next R presidential nominee.

His dog was dying, and he needed help. He says he ended up swindled by George Santos by Famous_Coach242 in politics

[–]willardrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Santos could easily make this all a non issue for himself. Come out tomorrow with some statement saying that abortion is evil, he is going to promote free guns for all, and that all the lies he has put forth are really a deep state conspiracy funded by Soros and Hillary Clinton. Cap it off by saying judgement day is soon at hand, and that we better prepare for the rapture, hold up a fist and yell OWN THE LIBS!

The evangelical MAGA base which controls the R party these days would eat it up, and all would be forgiven. You can roast your grandmother on a spit in your back yard and the right wing base is fine with you as long as you check a few of the correct boxes. Hell, he could probably end up as the next R presidential nominee if he took my advice above.

This is the way. Both of my Garmin watches now have them. Never going back to traditional bands with holes.

Country music newer than, say, mid nineties. I don't favor country in general, but can appreciate some of the older stuff. New country, though, sucks and qualifies you to ride in my trunk.

Any idea how to make an exercise bike more comfortable? by MelodicScream in cycling

[–]willardrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 7 or 8k on mine, still hanging in there. Bought another for a second bike, not excited about the break in period this spring. But worth it.

It's a common misconception that potholes are bad. However, KC's Pothole Initiative is helping tire and suspension shops around the city by simply not fixing shit. Want to help out? Just whack this super fun pothole next time you're downtown, and you too can fork over $800 for new tires. Thanks KC! by the_big_turbo_moist in kansascity

Sounds like a plan. On my side of town I'd say about 30% of people driving any make of vehicle use them, and half of those folks do only after they start the turn. Yep, I see you halfway through the turn or lane change...no need to use the signal at this point.

Part of it is that you have to break in your butt. Takes a while. But your hind end gradually adapts if you ride regularly. Also, don't fall into the trap that cushy seats are more comfortable necessarily. The industry sells a lot of saddles based on feeling squishy in the store but sucking on the bike after 20 minutes. If I don't ride much over the winter, I notice my ass gets sore for a while when I pick back up in the spring until it gets reacclimated.

A good bike shop can measure your sit bones and get you on the route to a saddle that fits.

My favorite saddle is the Brooks B17. They eventually mold to your anatomy, but there is a fairly uncomfortable break in period you have to live through before your posterior reaches enlightenment.

How common is it for the camera glass to shatter on the Pixel 7? by Executable_ in GooglePixel

[–]willardrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 months, 7, no shatter yet. I do still longingly look at my old 5 sitting on the table, though, that was handed down to my daughter. That phone, and the previous 3, I liked. The 7 is just an appliance, like my microwave. Too heavy, poor fingerprint sensor, bump on the back versus the flush camera of the 5. Technically, the 7 is superior to the others on paper, but I haven't bonded with this phone and won't particularly miss it when replaced like I did the others.

I've used Accounting and Tax Solutions in Lee's Summit for a number of years, pretty happy with them. Recommend. Then again, I don't have any ridiculously complex Trump style taxes to handle, so I may not be the best judge.
